Yeahhhhhhh finished work earlier than expected this afternoon and as it was nice n dry I managed to cut the grass then had a couple of hours clearing some more of the allotment area. Disturbed a couple of frogs so there was a few screams from me....I know I'm sad but they really do freak me out! So glad I went out gardening instead of doing the housework as it has rained more most of this evening/night....feeling smug image

went to the plot last night as I finished work early image. Picked some autumn raspberries(they didnt make it home) radishes , mizzuma and pack choi for tea. Feels good to come home with a harvest no matter how small.

Planted a sorrel and a strawberry and cleared away some beans. I will be back up on Sunday to try and dig a bed for some asparagus crowns.

Why are there so many white fly about at the momentimage, and why does my pretty little dog have to roll in fox poo when my back is turned?image

I'm just back from the allotment. We've put in the posts for the fruit and better posts for the blackberries.

Had a visit from my favourite 3 year olds, who were more than happy to feed the chickens on someone else's plot with a bit of cabbage leaf

picked up my broad bean seeds and was given a bag full of chillies, some carrots and a marrow. I've never tried marrow before so it'll be good to see how that turns out. My tastes seem to have changed somewhat since getting the allotment image

White fly , didn't want to use sprays but white fly a real problem on sprouts and kale everybody seems to be the same this year , don't known why ?Any body known ?

ginagibbs , I did an asparagus bed last year for the first time but the allotment holder next door pointed out " asparagus  Beatle " nasty little things that sucks the life out of the plants so had to kill by hand and spray , beware next year !

turnips that's another thing to put in the slow cooker

have you tried growing squash , amazing crop this year image

Turned over my compost heaps this afternoon, but had to watch out for the slow worms - there are quite a few living in the heap, usually lying half buried, just under the old carpets covering it all. Lovely little creatures, but causes my little five-year old granddaughter to scream like a banshee when they appear!

I'm quite cross with myself for being too hungover to go to the allotment image

Re white fly, fellow allotmenteers on my site are plagued too. One has a cordon of string on canes  around his sprouts to which he has attached sticky wide parcel tape along the string. He regularly shakes the plants and any flies fly onto the tape! Says the sprouts are not badly affected and they looked solid, well formed.

A slow week  on my plot. Clearing an area for compost bins. Will start with posts and wire frame until I can get more solid sides. Use one for leaves for now (plenty of those about!)

Dug trench and planted  gooseberry bushes. Reading with interest about required soil for blueberry bushes, mixed recommendations on that thread, so will keep in large pots for now.

This weeks aim is for more ground to be dug, the compost bins in place and decision as to where to have cutting beds.

    All looking good image
