GWRS I treat peppers as I do chillies. They finally end up in 9" pots, I mist them to help prevent red spider mite and to help the fruit set, also restrict the number of fruits to about 6 or 7. This year I've bought some Chilli Focus liquid feed, recommended by Stacey on her chilli thread and will give them some of that. In the past I've fed them with tomato feed so I will be interested to see if they are any better this year, fingers crossed for a long warm summer
Went up to my plot last night but got rained off again! So much has grown and it needs getting in the ground or potting on (not enough hours in the day!)
Broadbeans have had an attack of weavils i think, as they look nibbled round the edges. Any suggestions welcome
My potatoes are finally in! They went in today because the weather recently hasn't been that great and yesterday was a washout for me after staying up all night to watch the election results (the one and only time I have ever done that). My broad beans at that site had been badly affected by the wind so they have been tied back upright again. The amount of beans growing on them is mad!
My my strawberries all have flowers on them, the ones in my greenhouse have got fruit on
all the above ground growers at the other site have had a chicken manure tea drink this morning
GWRS went to allotment today had a quick nosy in the shop then to the plot, done a bit of digging then home to get the help with the online food shop and lunch then back to the plot more digging to do managed to dig a metre square so getting somewhere, others turned up later one sorting out his area for chickens
Shoulder a bit sore had lots of stones in one bit kept bashing them with the spade, had help from mum to trim the side grass on the path, sorting out the dirt weed shuffling to get the soil away from the dug patches of weeds and soil
Found a golf ball yesterday so that good for a putty around game
I still have potatoes to plant in bags need to get the compost, planted peas late this evening in pea bed in garden
Ginagibbs enjoy Malvern tomorrow
Where is Stagbeetle? and Roy? hello to you and others not seen on here for a while
Hi All. Had a good half day at Malvern, I had forgotten just how beautiful that area is, and the hills make a very dramatic backdrop to the show.
Spent most of the day looking around the flower displays and came home with a trolley load of plants and an empty purse!! It was incredibly busy, best show garden was the Spanish themed one, it was lovely.Did'n t have time to do all of it as there was so much to see (and too many people!) Might go again in the Autumn.
Still managed to get to the plot last night, did a bit more digging ready for the sweetcorn to go in and found a Victorian clay pipe and some old broken bits of patterned china ware. Got some French beans and more peas planted, so the beds are filling up gradually.
The horse tail is springing up all over the place, so having to weed every day now.
Ginagibbs , Horse tail , unfortunately I have some of this on the bottom of my Allottment , because the roots go down so far I bought some special weed killer and it seems to be working
Been to the allotment today spent a while clearing 2 metres back and nearly 12 metres wide of brambles and grass with hand sheers and grass edging sheers as don't have a cordless strimmer took a lot of arm strength
when we went back after lunch finished cutting and dug half a metre
got bitten by a red ant painful little things, also met one of the further away plot neighbours have seen them building a chicken run and gh they have been there since January this year
Ginagibbs sounds like you enjoyed looking around the show and got some plant goodies
