My Christmas potatoes have been coated in Bordeaux mixture today because of the dreaded blight imageimage

i went and pulled off the affected leaves on Monday. They look so bare image

Sorry to hear about all the wind damage. Nothing more serious here than strewn plastic bottles from cane tops and sheeting billowing about. The allotments are fairly sheltered on all sides but there can be a 'wind tunnel effect' I'm told.

Well, here it is - my one week old allotment plot image

So far I've managed to clear loads of rubbish, raked off dead grass, cut back and dug out nettles and brambles :  bit at a time, thats been the best advice because it was hard work.

Plans : to find the paths, turn over the good soil on the right, cover the grass before it,   check the raspberry bed on the left (as the canes are  invading the neighbouring plot) and hope  the plot doesn't get waterlogged!

That looks great BizzieB so exciting, are you going for small beds and lots of them or big beds and less of them

I going to have a play with your allotment in paint

GWRS I have greenhouses galore! Is it not too late to get them in bags for Christmas? Might be a good back up plan if I lose them all on the plot image

image ok thanks Gardengirl, thinking one large bed for staple veg with smaller ones almost ornamental, say, purple podded beans/large cabbages with herb/companion plants.Visited local walled fruit and vegetable garden and was taken with the planting there

Hi everyone, hope you don't mind me joining this thread. I haven't got an allotment but we bought a cottage 4 yrs ago in a village and it has an unusual lay out regarding the gardens. We have a back garden which was quite 'up together' when we moved here and I have been managing that and adding my own touches. The front garden was a bit haphazard and although we look out onto about 50 ft, the last quarter of the garden belongs to our neighbour and they have rights of access down our garden path to get to the front of their cottage. We extended our kitchen which is at the front so ended up re structuring the whole garden which I'm really pleased with.

we also have another garden which runs parallel to our neighbours back garden ( we have rights of access all around their cottage ) and this is the area that I'm hoping to completely restructure over the next couple of years. When we moved here it just looked like a huge expanse of grass which we just mowed to keep tidy but there was loads of weeds throughout. Over the last year or so we built temporary veggie beds just so we could grow a little produce. This year I have managed to clear a larger area  and I'm trying to get a better layout for future planting.

It's encouraging to read all your posts and the pics look fab too!  It's handy that I don't have to walk far for my 'allotment type' garden but it would be nice to talk to other allotment folk for advice and encouragement...... Which is why I zoomed in on here once I saw the thread! I've been here over an hour just reading through from the beginning  image

I'm a bit if a techno-phobe but will try and take some pics tomorrow, weather permitting and see if I can manage to post them.

As it's 2.15am think I'd better go to bed! Will catch up here tomorrow......happy gardening all image
