  • Weather here in Gloucestershire was dreadful yesterday, did'nt venture out in the garden let alone the allotment, must be the first time for ages !!image

Last week one of the ladies at the site gave me some stems of Boysenberry to plant, hers are massive so I'm hoping for good things, just need to get some stakes and wires to hold them up with. Planted some Jerusalem Artichokes too. image

Weyplotter, our water gets turned off too so we use water butt water instead, not much use for washing wellies though.

Well done with your plot Victoria, its looking really tidy now. Its good to get the structure sorted before you start growing.

Still waiting for the poly tunnel, think its due Wednesday.image

  • Have a fab holiday GWRS!

we are going on holiday in aug so am hoping someone from the allotment wouldn't mind watering the plot.

GWRS- I can try and adapt a trolley for tools but we go down an alleyway to the allotment that we have called dog poo alley as it is dreadful there but people have be kind enough to make their dogs poo on the edge of the path rather through the middle of it image image So I really can't take anything down there but I can take the longer route with a trolley.

Went to the plot yesterday and got chatting to a lady there which was nice and the kids love it down there.

  • victoria-wow you have done a lot of work on your plot!

  • Hi Stagbeetle, re dog poo alley, if its council owned you could ask them to put dog poo bins at either end, then the dog walkers can bag and bin it?image worth a try!

  • The trouble is ginagibbs, there are already dog poo bins, I might phone the council this week about it.

  • Wow, if thats the case, thats really bad. (and I own 2 dogs!!) So sorry you are having this problem, they give us dog owners a bad reputation image Ring the council, perhaps they will put up some signs.

  • Victoria you have done brilliant is it just you? did you keep any of the pallet fence or planters?  can't remember if I asked you where are you

Ginagibbs nice to get a freebie

Stagbeetle did you get good info on what grows well from the lady?

You've worked had Victoria, do you have any help.

Woo2 - I've been growing veg about 6/7yrs. Started growing veg in pots and then graduated onto raised beds in the back garden and grew stuff in metre squares. Got a plastic GH and started growing chillies, toms and peppers. Was then given a 6 by 8 glass GH and added aubergines and cues to the list of stuff grown under glass..

I've grown strawberries and herbs for about 25yrs. I love strawberries and have always liked cooking with fresh herb and there's always been rubarb in the back garden.

ginagibbs - Our allotments are leased from the council, it's a self managed site so a committe is re-elected each yr to manage it, hence the AGM . It's agricultural land, no one wants it to become prime building landimagebut if we stray to much from the terms of the lease the council can take it back so we meet to discuss what was improved last yr, what will be improved this coming yr and if we are keeping to the terms of the lease.

Hoping to get down to the plot this weekend, weather premitting, to start digging  over the top part.

  • last weekend (not the one that's just left us!) I put a couple of rhubarb crowns in a carrier bag to give to my parents for their garden.

I forgot about it image I had a peek in the bag tonight and it's only blimmin growing! theres a stalk about two inches long on there!

Will have to get that dealt with tomorrow

    Rhubarb without trying Fruitcake....marvellous lol!

Zoomer, interesting to hear your story, was last year your first full year with an allotment then? I haven't grown peppers before but seem to get through quite a few cooking wise, are they easy to grow? Are there any varieties you'd recommend?

Weyplotter, which type of propagator are you hoping to get?

Another miserable day in the South West. Within an hour I had driven through rain, hailstones, snow and sunshine.....tonight we had thunder and lightening ...what is happening!
