Davesaat You and your plot are doing amazing I haven't even got a green house up yet, is your fire bin going ok now?

Not heard of that website before but looks good though and prices low too, I see they were on gardeners question time on the media pages

When I went to Hillier's a few weeks ago they had grape vines in the sale half price and looked good plants

not grown grapes before, I went some place and near by was a field with grape vines and they were not too far apart

  • i've given up with the fire bin for the moment, gg. I think it needs a hole at the bottom as well, as it's not staying alight long at all.

as it stands though, i've planned to have three rows of beds (aligned as per the membrane), with one in the middle. So for now, i've almost completely dug the left and chucked it in the middle for one big compost heap. also means i can leave 1/3 of the plot well alone until the end of next year, and get working on the rest.

  • Davesaat- your plot looks fab!

Went down to the allotment yesterday and a lovely lady gave us 16 strawberry plants image

    The sunflowers are still growing.

Davesaat , you have really worked hard   Plot looks great

took me ages to get fires  going now a dap hand , what I would say is stick a stick throw the side holes  to liven it up , works for me image

No experience of growing grapes , perhaps start a new thread , I understand you plant it out side of the greenhouse with the grapes growing inside , if that makes sense , if I ever get my greenhouse glazed at the alloottment , would like a grape vine image

Gg - the phone only came with a charger. Where there's a will there's a way though image

    Plot is looking good Davesaat.

Went down to the plot today. What a nice time of year when the weeds aren't growing. Planted two cherry tree's, I'm going to try and grow them as  fans, wish me luck as I'm not sure what to doimage I've put in a line of posts, the next job is to put in fan frames and tie in the branches.

Onions and garlic have nice healthy shoots and broad beans have germinated in the plastic GH. Planted out a bed of foxgloves for next yr and started to clear runner/french beans.

Threw in the towel with the two pear tree's planted last yr and dug them up, making room for two more. Plum and apple tree's are looking good but no fruit this yr.

Haven't grown grapes but some allotmenteers here, do. I'm in Lancashire and they grow then in either polly tunnels or GH. The guy on the neighbouring plot gets a huge crop from his vine, which has taken over his polly tunnelimage.

Zoomer with the cherry trees branches some that can easily be tied in the right place and others that the tree has will need to be eased in getting the branches part in place and slowly get them in the right place good luck

Some one on my allotment site grow grapes outside near there shed and up and over a seating area on a wooden frame

Stagbeetle that was really nice of them strawberries are imageyummy

sorted out a bit of a pallet coldframe yesterday and been sorting out compost lids so far will need to find pallets that are right for the frame work of the compost bins

Hi all, Davesat, your plot looks very impressive! Been digging over any bare bits of bed and putting more horse muck on. Planted my new strawberry bed, hope I get to pick them next yr instead of the slugs, Planted some spring cabbage, there is so much whitefly here too, cant seem to get rid of them. Re grape vine, I planted one in the spring and i thought I had killed it but is has put on plenty of growth over the summer, i guess it might want pruning now. Plan to install an arch for it to grow over (its an out door variety) dont know much about grape growing either, Monty Don has some and gives advice in GW.image

Did some clearing today and am also putting muck on any bare patches. Cut some  sunflowers and dahlia's, both have done really well. Also planted out the last of my foxglove seedlings for next yr.

Set up another composting site. As the plot is on a slope, there are composting area's at the top, in the middle and at the bottom now. It seems to be all green waste at present so it's good that it can be distributed.

ginagibbs - your strawberry patch will be fine. I try to be organic but started off using blue pellets and a mix of organic deterent's on the plot for slugs/snails.Sometimes the means can justify the ends, bring down the population and give the good guy's a fighting chanceimage. At home, apart from a good mulch, at this time of yr, the strawberry patch has thrived off neglect.

Blue pellets , I put them in glass jars , rather than scatter them about and so far have not really had much problems with slugs and snails

this year I have also put out fats balls a peanuts for the birds

I did have a bug house but that was one of the items the vandals smashed , will eventually do another image
