  • I've done nothing with my allotments recently, other than nipping in to check on things image

very likely I'll be deciding which chicken house I want next week, so all I've gotta do is put it all together amd get the chooks!

for starting ting seeds off, I've got 2 glass greenhouses, 2 cold frames, I think 5 or 6 standalone shelf units from blow away greenhouses (you can buy just the shelves in argos) and 2 propagators. I've got shelves made for the back room window to double the space for seeds. And still i'll run out of space lol

Gg - Most local bye laws don't allow you to pick seaweed fresh but you can collect it if it's washed up. Following a high tide is best, the beach near us has a rocky egde to it and often harbours washed up seaweed.

Makes a good feed for plants but smellsimage.

If I can get enough I also use it as a mulch around potted plants and in the GH beds. Smells like the seaside for a while but soon dries out and goes black in colour.

Looking forward to hearing about your chooks Fruitcakeimage

  • Zoomer not sure seaweed don't really have beaches around here for that may try pellet form, good point about watering the potatoes, I did use a hose which tap water has got lime in - maybe I will stick to water butt water

Raspberry's I meant cut down to ground level not grown level, sometimes you can tell if they are summer ones as the old canes will be really twiggy which would get cut away

Fruitcake sounds as though you are well prepared with your seed sowing areas - I find I run out of room for seedlings, I did start with one grow house 4 tier then got 2 5 tier ones and now have a nursery raised bed to grow seedlings on before planting out

Roy shame the lady won't be coming back but that is an experiment for you to try out - if you are thinking of cut flowers you could have a look at the local GC's and see if they have any bulbs going cheep to plant out now time

Hello all , finally got to the allottment , got some sprouts , parsnips , celeriac and leeks , however , swedes hopeless and the carrots planted in a box , ie. About 2 ft high , no carrot fly but only as big as a finger nail !

Might need some advice on growing Swedes ?image

  • despite having sprouts, cabbage, kale amd brocolli growing at the allotment, looks like the only homegrown stuff on my table this year will be cabbage. The brocolli is doing well but not quite well enough amd won't be ready in time, unless it has had a massive growth spurt in the last week!

But next year will be very different!
