Thanks Gardengirl, I've just visited YouTube via the link too and watched one of the videos of Sean's allotment. It's handy to have an alternate way of watching garden/allotment info which you can access at any time image

We been out measuring and marking up for the base of the new greenhouse, but it's back to work for hubby tomorrow so no actually digging out until next weekend. It's just typical that he was poorly this last 10 days or so when he was on hols from work and hoping to have got it all done, never mind, we will get there!

Gina, nice Christmas pressies, lucky you image

Woo 2 I'm in the same predicament as your hubby- i havent been well since christmas which is really annoying because I could have had so much done before going back to work tomorrow. Such a waste of good annual leave.

We ve have been at the new plot this morning, measuring up for the chicken run. Turns out that it's not as big as we thought it was (or indeed paid for!) but it kind of works in our favour because we get that little bit of extra growing space. Made a start on digging but it was far too claggy so gave up on that. Cleared around the raspberries and attempted to clear around the gooseberries but they are way too thorny! I'm going to wait now until it's dried up a bit and have another go at them. I need to do some reading up on pruning them too

Aww sorry to hear that Fruitcake, hope you're feeling better. At least we're on the right side of the winter solstice, will start getting lighter evenings soon image

I really like Youtube great for watching loads of things glad you liked Sean's video

Fruitcake is the run big enough for the chickens you will be getting?

Have you all been planning what you will be growing this year?

When is it you start seed sowing?  who is one that sows direct and who sows in trays/pots?

I mainly sow in trays but if I get the allotment want to sow direct more

Morning All. Gg i'm planning to plant lots in pots(coir). With my wireworm infestation hope to give my veggies a bit of protection to get started.                                             Raspberry growers advice please planted my freebies yesterday.Looking on the web it  says cut them down to 6/10cm. Some I'v planted are taller and have buds and leaves on, do I cut them too                                                                                    Another warning of sheds blowing down here , chances for the plastic gh don't seem good.

Hi Roy, there is something to get rid of wireworm, cant remember the product but it was in the Expert Veg grower book under growing potatoes. I will have a look when I go home lunch time and let you know.

Re:  AC, was a bit lame and know what you mean about the food judge. I do enjoy the food bit though as I like to make preserves etc. Love Sean, Geoff and Vivi on Youtube, Its great to get some tips and see whats going on thats current and seasonal.

GG cant wait to get the seeds going, still a bit early yet, I will try and restrain myself for a few more weeks yet!!!!image

An allotment free few days for me now that I am back at work image Could have done with today's weather yesterday. Means I can spend time planning things, only to change them at the weekend when I see the plots lol. I've lost count of the number of times my plans have changed

I have 3 gooseberry bushes on the new plot. I had a clear around them yesterday and think they look pretty old by bush terms but dont want to prune them too hard...I might actually get rid of one later this year as I know goosies are quite prolific fruiters but couldnt use that many. I uncovered about 40 raspberry canes yesterday too, all autumn fruiting by the look of it. I hope they taste better than the ones I had in my garden last year, I didnt like the autumn ones at all image

Just had my invoice from the council for my plot, i'ts less than I was expecting, £42.64 including the shed (tha'ts £20 less than I was told!!)imageimage
