Hi Zoomer, I think you might have flea beetles on your brocolli, I have this problem too but I never seem to see them. They were on my cabbages and they made so many holes I thought they would be inedible, however they seemed to stop on their own, possibly the cabbages got too big and not as tender for them to bother.image

Made a quick trip to the plot last night to put my onions under cover in case it rained today as forecast, there were people working when I left at 9.45 pm !!image

Checked out flea beetle, Ginagibbs, and that's what they look to be, hopefully as the plants grow they'll leave them alone.

Pea's were nibbled by pea weevil but the seedlings are now bigger and have got through it. Pea weevils are now moved to nibbling the beans, I guess not all pests are distructive to the point where plants die which is reasuringimage

Gg- I was thinking more of why do we bother putting up netting, the fruit bushes and strawberries won't be netted. I'm hopnig there'll be enough fruit for both the wildlife and myselfimage

Spent the afternoon at home potting up seedlings to small for planting out.

I have to net my fruit bushes to because they will be stripped clean. I don't have to bother with the Rasberries as they fruit later and the birds don't touch them. Still no rain having to dash up and down with watering cans. I swear my arms are getting longer.

I went back to work on Monday after 4 months off so my allotment time is severely limited now image I nip in to check on the chickens on my way home and then I've been working on my second job in the evenings and most of yesterday. The weather was rubbish anyway. Today I'm feeling a bit fragile after a night on the home brewed plum wine image it was a good night though image

my chickens go nuts for gooseberries! I'll have to get cracking with picking them soon.

At the other plot, despite netting and putting straw under my strawberries, the red ones are still getting eaten by wood lice. The new potatoes are doing well and we have been eating them for a couple of weeks now. The broad beans are pretty much finished, so they can come up later this week. Everything else seems to be doing well image

You are way ahead of me Fruitcake, we must be in a colder area, only had our first new spuds yesterdayimageand the gooseberries are still not ripe. 1 courgette is producing now and turnips are small but edible. Did a lot in the garden yesterday so only spent 2 hours at the plot weeding and doing odd jobs and potting up yet more tomatoes( did too many again!!) image

Got  a big can of fence paint for £5 at Tesco's on Saturday to paint the shed with, its looking a bit tatty so I will get that done soon, Unfortunately, my shed is a wide one that is split 2 so I will need to paint my neighbour's aswell image

Ginagibbs nice not to have a tatty looking shed will be good with your paint, could you say to you neighbour painting day and do the shed together if you see them arrange sometime

Fruitcake dam things eating your strawberry they are meant for you

Been to the allotment plot today when got there I seemed to end up being gate person for a few of - then off to my plot for more digging got some more digging done or whacking as the soil is so tough and compacted in that area still finding rubbish - getting there with the temp trial bed nearly 2 metres dug altogether
