Went to the plot for a few hours so windy out again got some more digging done
Thanks Ginagibbs it is a braeburn apple as well like that sort, shame none of the other plots that you wanted are not being used - sounds good with the harvests
We are still getting lots of rain, some of the roads are flooded due blocked drains so haven't been to the plot. It's also been very windy this evening so plan to go to the plot in next few days to check on the GH.
Went to the plot to take more leaf mould. The GH is fine, no glass broken, also collected some gladioli bulbs which had been drying off in the plastic GH. Some veg had blown over but it's not the end of the world, after all we veg growers are a hardy bunch. Chad will recover and kale/leeks/dahlia's were standing up like real troupers.
I sowed some broad beans, possible in September (would need to check the label) and they've germinated and are about 3inches high in pots in the plastic GH. Haven't successfully grown them before and not sure what to do now. Is it to late to plant them out, the variety is a dwarf one 'The Sutton'.
Our allotments, on one side, are next to what is akin to a woodland area. What I like about this time of year is the change in tree's and the colours of their leaves. Mother nature has a way of conserving energy and it was nice to see everything dying back on the plot today.
Zoomer , broad beans , you could plant some out now under clouches , if they are a winter variety , if not I would leave to next year and yes I have put mine out now
Totally agree with the change in leaves , colours looks fantastic
hope to get up to plot on Sunday to see what the wind has done ?
Went to the allotment plot today for a while done some more digging and moving of the bags with bark chipping in - the sun got to the plastic bags they kept ripping, and couch grass weeds had gone though the bags - so note to self not to do that again or put cardboard under the bags and not leave them for a long time
Well the plot does look a bit different now, moved the temporary compost bin as well, found another golf ball really like finding them and an old holey high viz vest under a lot of soil and lots of other rubbish - got a 2p the other day great find
The neighbours shed got broken into they damage the shed a bit getting in and think someone said that someone's chickens have been stolen, we noticed a bit of the fencing cut the other day and they were meant to be fixing it today but they did not so still there hope they will tomorrow
Will need to have a bonfire soon as lots of weeds to burn
Sorry to hear of the break in Garden Girl, thats awful. Only had one bonfire so far as the rest is on the compost heap.
Went up to my plot yesterday, pulled up my first parsnip, what a whopper !!! I was so chuffed. I have been growing celeriac too and thats been worthwhile, nice big tubers, will roast together for dinner tonight.
The fence got fix yesterday site rep saw them he got there as we were leaving so after 4.15 pm went and check out today looks good wire nice and patched up
Just had a quick nose at the fence and plot today all things look ok
Ginagibbs will be nice to grow big parsnips, lots of cleaning to do with them get the soil off - what does celeriac taste like? never tried it before
not sure when having a bonfire just have to keep checking the weather
The Police hear got 2 lads for the damage at our Allottments found stolen items in there houses , however , proving it is another matter , very impressed with police
