  • Hello Mel M

I signed up this year for an allotment so no plot yet but on the waiting list, have been interested in allotments for quite a few years - I have decided I would like one, do visit the allotment shop as open to the public found that out a few months ago, I have a nose around the plots they let me

Mel M  sounds as though you grow a good selection of veg - two sheds bonus, you have a lot of space triple plot, like the weed growing, have you grown cape gooseberry?

BizzieB  did not think of a poly tunnel having restrictions, I guess you have to ask if you can have one on your plot like a shed or green house

  • I've got a lot of little jobs coming up at the allotment. I have redcurrants, blackcurrants and raspberries to plant, onions and garlic to buy and get into modules before planting and rhubarb to seperate and get planted in a bed, as well as leaving some where it is

At home, I've just planted up some dwarf French beans in the greenhouse as an experiment.

I've also taken a good look at my banana plants, and two have become six image so I will separate them this weekend and get them settled in their new pots before the cold hits in, then when it warms up next year I might try a couple at the allotment to see how they get on image

Spent all yesterday afternoon doing more digging and weeding ready for the onions and garlic. however I have been feeling very guilty of disrupting the habitat of a family of frogs on my plot who like to hide under the tarpaulin and cardboard I put down to suppress the weeds.imageSo  I purchased a black washing up bowl and got some pond weed to put in along with a couple of bricks, dug a hole for it so its ground level and now have 1 happy frog. I hope the rest come and join himimage We have newts and slow worms tooimage

  • Ginagibbs that sounds good nice to have a small pond even something to watch keep an eye on them all and keep the slugs down

Sound like it is digging time for some of you

Zoomer I would say sounds as if the raspberry's are autumn fruiting - I make sure I prune them all down about February time, as they fruit on the same years growth

    Hi Zoomer44.

Never measured my plots but they are about 14 mtr by 5 mtr each, side by side. I never intended to have so much, having just one plot with a shed that I built from scratch, but then the chap next door gave up his double plot with a shed and poly tunnel, so I took it on, along with a certain lady who never materialised. I don't find the size a problem, in fact at times I could do with another plot - but sense prevails.

Gardengirl. I have never grown Cape Gooseberries but a friend of mine, who has a market garden and huge poly tunnels, grows them every year with much success.

  • Hi Mel M. I would love to have a bigger plot mine is only a half plot. Such a long waiting list here so not sure if I can get more space. Yours sounds wonderfulimage

  • Zoomer44  just another thought you could have some daffs coming up in you grass under the fruit trees

Well the cape gooseberry is going to be my new thing to grow for next year hope they taste nice will wait an see for that
