..thank you GWRS.... yes we thought to strim it over first and then start bit by bit on the weeding...going to take some time that... don't think we can burn anything so will have to cart as much away as poss...
Gardengirl...I'm in East Anglia..Fenland area...the soil I have been told is excellent on the site and it doesn't flood..
..I have spoken to the Council today and someone will be arranging to meet with me at the site in due course...not sure when...I told them I was in a hurry ! lol...
..my ideas with the allotment will be a little different to most I think, in that I want it to be an extension of my garden..I'm not sure if other people see it that way or not..?...
...fortunately there are few restrictions apart from not doing anything commercial... so I can grow what I like.... it'll be mostly fruit bushes, apples, pears... all sorts of currants and gooseberries... with a bit of veg here and there....herbs, garlic...I'm very fond of various cabbages...some potatoes and Curly Kale... runner beans of course, Leeks...but I don't like broad beans...
...I shall also grow flowers and roses... I'm not sure what to do regarding paths... whether to sow grass seed... I shall need good paths.. what do you all do for yours...?
I want a flower patch to attract the bees, do think of it as an extension of my garden but just don't want lots of tree in the veg patch like I have here
Paths think either grass or weed matting and bark chippings
I've got bark chippings on my paths. There is weed control fabric underneath.
Take plenty of photos as you go along.
people grow all sorts on their plots. At my site, there is a Chinese lady who grows all sorts of "exotic" stuff- squashes etc (it's mostly elderly folks at my site so they probably think that squashes are proper exotic lol).
My garden is quite small really and we've stuck with stuff mostly in pots. Now I've got my plot, most of it will be moved up the road, leaving my garden for flowers
...oh I will... everyone's enthusiasm is rubbing off on me too... I hope to hear soon from them...I got the impression there wouldn't be a problem in getting the plot I wanted...
I think now I might also go for bark chippings for path with weed fabric underneath, I've already got plenty of that..
...will update as soon as I know more....thanks again
GG I had it today as cauli cheese. It was very nice, albeit a bit too cheesy for me and now I feel a bit nauseous I also had peas that I picked today and they were lovely. I've only had HG broad beans once and they were fab. I've tried shop bought ones since and they were horrible
Salino please keep us updated, I feel almost as excited about it as you!
..how lucky to get free chippings... I shall have to look into that otherwise it's quite expensive... I'm going to do it bit by bit and take it slowly...otherwise it might be overwhelming... I like everything done yesterday though...impatient...must adapt..
..thanks Fruitcake.. I shall... might go back to the site tomorrow to make my plans... it's only down the road and I could walk to it with spade in hand...lol...but not yet.. so very convenient for me if this works out...

Sounds good gardengirl
I'm having homegrown cauli for the first tine tonight
That sounds good Fruitcake
I am not sure if I will like cauliflower so growing it, think things taste better when you grow it yourself how do you have it cooked?
did not like the small sweetcorn till I grew it myself this year (minipop) and broad beans still bit unsure even though home grown
Had homegrown sweetcorn and french beans tonight - must be a night of your own veg grown

Hello , Salino , yes I agree bark chipping are the best and that's what I have used on paths but I don't put weed fabric down to fussy for me
our allotment association gets Free bark Chipping's from local landscaper / tree surgeons who are pleased to get rid of it , worth a try ?
