I've loads of small pots and when these start to run out use toilet rolls for beans and peas, then make pots out of newspaper if I really get short.

I'm one of those people who believes you can't knock it till you've tried it, you must let us know how the cow pots work out.

Some growers don't like using toilet rolls, they do go mouldy sometimes but I like them because seedlings can grow deeper roots and you can fit more in a seed tray than conventional pots and where space is at a premium, on a window ledge or in the GH they take up less room.

My new/first 200sqm allotment plot started clearing it last weekend got that huge chicken shed to knock down this weekend. I think I may have to dust off my sledge hammer image

  • I have just looked at the cowpots link and see that they are made in America, any of you know of a similar product made in UK.

i use the middle of T R but they do grow little mushrooms sometimes

  • I've seen them in Wilkinson will be picking some up this weekend

  • Good luck with your plot Victoria, looks like you've got your work cut out!

Spent yesterday doing more digging, soil is getting better now its full of horse poo. Masses of worms nowimage still a bit claggy so will get more muck in certain areas.

Pulled up the broad beans I planted late Autumn as they were not faring well at all. I think my cold, wet clay soil did'nt do them any favours, not sure if I will bother with winter growing apart from onions and garlic.image

Victoria, looks like you have an Aladin's cave. After knocking down the shed what's your next venture? I'm still digging over and thinking about where to put paths. I'd be inclined to keep all those pots. Good luck and happy growingimage.

Hoping to get down on the plot at least one morning this weekend if the weather is kindimage.

Yes , good look Victoria in clearing plot , can still remember what mine was like , bit at a time soon sorts it out

Had planned to go to allottment today but tyre blow out on way home yesterday afternoon has some what changed plans ie. Need to get new tyre !image

  • The weather here is pants so I'll not be doing anything gardening related today. Tomorrow though we are planning on putting the chicken wire on. I need to get more, thicker wire to double up with. These chickens had better start paying for themselves pretty soon lol

  • I was out in the front garden yesterday doing some weeding and I got a parcel my bright coloured orange and blue trays and propagator lids and OMG they are amazing

It would be nice if the weather was to be dryer today as I have FREE horse manure to get later - think I will be doing the shovelling to bag the stuff - looked on Gumtree and there was an add, not too far away

Fruitcake make sure you have thick gloves
