Davesaat what things are you going to grow? thinking ahead like fruit, veg, flowers
I would do like GWRS taking the rubbish to the tip or putting a bag into the wheelie bin each week
I took a while to choose my plot when another plot came up I could look at that but decided on the 1st one as second one smaller and for what I want to do wanted bigger plot
I have taken to going to a industrial business park and one business has loads of big cardboard that I can take which (and pallets) I am using on the plot once the weeds and grass cut down to stop them growing more - you could see if one near by you has anything like that
there's all sorts of stuff we want to grow really - potatoes, garlic, grapes, melon, lettuce, broccoli, leeks... we've done a list and it has at least 30 different veg on it. i guess we'll see what grows well and take it from there. what i'd really like to try is growing some grapes though. the kids eat so many of those that they never last. also think some thornless blackberries should go well with the mulberry tree growing in my garden.
Hi Davesaat, how exciting having a new plot. I would go for the big plot if I were you, mine is a half size and am wishing it were bigger! Is it council run? if so you can contact your allotment officer to see if they can arrange a skip for the site, we have one sent to ours when requested. Some will also help with wood chips for paths and trailer loads of horse muck, if your lucky. Good luck
gwrs, i've already had a couple of chats with my fellow allotmenteers, although with the recent horrible weather, i've not seen many. from what i've seen, pretty much everything grows well in the sandy loam soil we have.
gg, it's run by the local parish council, not the borough council and unfortunately, they can't supply a skip and no-one else is wanting one onsite at the moment. with the weather here at the moment, im in no immediate rush anyway.
Well today went and got more pallets there were a few I wanted in the middle of the pallet pile and they had some new ones which were the right sort of pallet for my shed
Also got some free vinyl flooring which will do nicely for my shed floor
GWRS that is terrible did they take anything of yours
Went and collected more pallets and cardboard for weed cover, 1 more pallet for the base of the shed so have 4 in total now at 1m by 1.5 metres each - will need to fill the gaps in
My peaches are ready to eat in garden yummy - think going to make a tart with pre made base
Hope to go to the allotment plot some day soon and take the cardboard there as taking over garage at mo
Davesaat shame you don't get bark chipping or horse manure - with the horse manure search out a local stable for free muck as most of them want to get rid of it
I found one advertising on Gumtree for free local to me and I go when they post or email them to check and then dig and bag it up - it does have loads of good worms in
They took silly things like sun glasses , cigars , weed killer , first aid box and lots of little things plus strange damage but compared to the 2 sheds burnt down !!!lucky
Davessat , our allottments gets both horse manure and clippings delivered free and we just help our selves
Planning to spend Weekend at allottment , repairs , helping tidy site and some work on own plot

Davesaat , it is a good idea to have a walk around and see what other grow and how , also have a chat , I have had some really good advise that way
Although you do get some old wives tales but that's what makes gardening interesting
I also got some books on Allottments from charity shops and The Works , one of these discount book shops
