Gg - Once you get your head around pruning currant bushes they are easy pezzie. Black currants taste slightly different to white and red but I haven't found much difference to the latter two.
With GW I also get 'Kitchen Garden' which is fad.
My winter veg has done ok, brussels, kale, leeks, celriac and chad are still being picked. Broccoli has grown but nothing to pick yet.
Zoomer, nice to hear you're still harvesting mmmmm, delicious. I also get Kitchen Garden magazine, like the layout and how they put the info across...nice to get the free seeds too
Gina....hope your back and hips are a bit more comfortable now !
Asparagus , bought 12 crowns from Kings this year , grew well , next year cut a few spears , year 2 then year 3 should be able to harvest as you like for the next 20 years if you look after them , love fresh asparagus
A number of old timers on the allottment advised us not to grow from seed and I think they are right
Note of caution we have now got " Aaparagus Beetle " in this country , so will need to spray , next door did not want to spray and they destroyed his bed
Gg haven't been to Southamton for yrs, nice place. Sorry hopeless at IT stuff so the pictures I have taken I will not be able to put them on here, daren't ask the husband as he's too big for his boots already!
Wow Zoomer you've done well with the winter veg- mine started ok and when I saw my cauli cabbage etc full of caterpillars even with the netting I threw everything on the compost heap.
I planted asparagus in Sept they are doing really well-easy to grow. Mind you the recent frost has probably killed the off.
Kitchen mag sounds nice shame I've already subscribed to grow your own.
Anyone growing Cranberry? got 2 plants dead cheap from W/rose they seem to be doing ok.
Weyplotter my cauliflower got eaten by caterpillars but a few did not and are doing ok
To put pictures on if you have them on your computer and are digital use the tree icon
to select pictures and upload. my pictures I have to edit in paint to reduce the size a bit so when you click on the picture it makes it bigger to view
Think I will be coming your way possible in April time for the Loseley for the spring garden show went to the - garden show this year such nice garden flowers holly hocks beautiful and veg area so large and neat, going there made me want to grow the celebration runner beans with the peach flowers for next year look so pretty http://www.loseleypark.co.uk/events
Zoomer currants sound easy ish to grow may try those
When picked the leaves of celeriac smell like celery, it's nice steamed, then mashed, I add alittle pepper, it has a slightly sweet taste to it.
Haven't tried growing cranberry. I did cheat with some winter veg, broccoli and half the kale were bought as plugs as it was too late to sow but ever so pleased with the results.
The new plot is coming along nicely. The top half still needs alot of attention. I've decided to let my first half plot go in February, the new one is more than big enough. .
Gg thanks ever so for how to upload etc, will have a go at some point-don't hold your breath though! Never been to Loosely myself might look into it. Went to Hampton crt show this yr-simply fab, except for Wisley haven't been to other gardens etc never have the time.
