Got my gh on line from Thomson&Morgan,49pounds +50pounds worth of free seeds.Seemed like a good deal. Will see when we put it up next year.Gg your gh shelves look good did you build them yourself.Could you pop over to Dover and build me some.
Here you go Roy pic below this is my potting table built out of pallets this year took quite a while to build, it was more separating the pallet wood and putting it together so without gaps in it, very handy to have - and have a grow bag water tray to help water plants when potted on
That seems a good deal, I was looking at the T&M gh but was too wide for my space
Just got back from a couple of hours digging, weeding, and squashing my golden friends.Lady on next plot donated me her raspberry plants if I want them. What to do with them, looked in my allotment gardening book no help.RHS site talks about layering.Thats way above my head. Please advise can I just dig them up and replant them.Z44 sounds like I should do some beach combing next year thanks.
Thanks Edd. Trip to the garden center for compost, and start growing my first crop.Tried rye grass on the first section I cleared, hardly anything came up, I think I just fed the birds.Lets see them eat raspberry plants
Now that the weather is milder made a few quick visits to the allotment with more manure ready to top up the beds. Until I can get my compost bins up and running I'm having to buy in manure. Not a bad decision as can stack the bags in readiness.
With the exception of one bed which is covered in plastic and will need tidying up next year the others are showing good signs of the soil improving. Trimming back any excess grass to keep pathways clear and plan to lay membrane and bark on the ones I will be using most.
Area cleared and level for shed, existing raspberry canes showing new growth (tidied up that bed and mulched). Pleased to note that the low winter sun covers the plot for at least four hours around mid-day, a good sign for next winters crop
Reading the geenhouse posts with interest as need extra space for seed growing so a three or four tiered one would just fit at the side of the house (no room for a full greenhouse). Noted the use of bricks as anchors!
Morning GWRS,sowed the rye end of sept. Not had any cold days it's too late for it now. Saw other holders spreading manure thought I better do same .I'm now of the manure, dig in and cover school. Bizzie B hello seems where at the same stage.Lots to do.Took on the allotment so I could potter. How long until I can start pottering.Just been given raspberry plants, Hope you will be able to give me advice when I replant them.
Roy ask if the person knows if the raspberry plants are autumn or summer cropping ones as is autumn plant you trim down in about February time to near grown level as fruit on same year wood
The 3.. 4.. 5. tier gh is good option for growing seedling, I put away when finished about September this year and get back out spring, yes weighed down with bricks is best mainly stays up but if windy weather does blow, have had it on the floor with all my seedlings in once not so nice then so bricks help
BizzieB that is good that you will be having a shed, I have just brought bags of manure from gc like you for my garden beds
one bed needs re- doing with wood then I will add the manure is so handy in bags
Hello Gg. Learn something new everyday.Thought a raspberry was a raspberry didn't know about summer/autumn.Been reading GW Forum on them.My raspberry lady isn't coming back, giving the plot up.There are about a dozen plants so I'II do half and half S/A and see what happens.
