Been to the allotment plot late today to cut more weeds down and take some pallets there

  • Been to the allotment today missed out on getting a free orange tree it was near shop, we went to off load car as had pallets in there went back to try and get it and it was gone image

Spent time cutting weeds, digging up the potatoes, having lunch then more cutting and I started to dig and clear area for shed about 1 metre done - lots of more rubbish and glass under top growth

Also planted out some cabbages and cauliflower which I grew from seed way back in spring extra ones,  I will see with these not sure how well they will do at all

Found out that the plot that has become vacant is going to be taken over by the next door plot people from end of October - so they will have 2 large plots

Not posted for a while so have been catching up on everyone's postings.

Good luck with your new plot davessat, keep posting your progress. Sorry to hear about the mindless vandalism GWRS, enjoy your jollies though. Gg, can't wait to see the inovative ways you are going to use pallets on your plot. I look at a pallet now and think, they are free and the things which can be done with them is only limited by the imagination of the person getting themimage

Nice to read everyone else's postings too..

I've been  busy digging over the top of the plot, laying paths and preparing that bit for next yr. I flooded the strimmer and me thinks the spark plug got damp, which was a blessing, as I realised the weeds were just being kept down and I wasn't really progressing the top of the plot.

Spent a nice hour or so on the plot today with a friend and 3 children picking veg, they gathered toms, cues, peppers, leeks, kale, runner beans, courgettes, 2 pumkins for halloween, dahlia's, sweet pea, a huge sunflower and herbsimage

  • Had my plot for two weeks now, and got maybe a quarter of it dug up and a further quarter covered in woven fabric, so getting on well.

Doesn't look like quite so much when the dug up grass is covering the area i've dug, although i've decided on a spot for a compost heap, which typically has a layer of plastic and a layer of carpet to get rid of. On clearing an area for the shed and moving it, i've found a tangled mess of blackberries and blackcurrants. Is my only option to get rid of the blackberries (but keep the blackcurrants) to dig them up and keep cutting it back every year? Or should i move them elsewhere? I've also found half a dozen strawberry plants and about a dozen raspberry ones.

Also, are there any tips to get an incerator (the old rusty metal drum in pic 1) working well? I've tried to use it, but it doesn't seem to get anywhere near as hot as even my home BBQ gets, so it doesn't burn the grass and weeds and instead keeps going out. Would drilling even more holes in the sides and bottom help?

  • Hello Zoomer44 pain with strimmer it is a thing of keeping weeds down are you going to dig the area? , what a great harvest, pallets are good it is just figuring out what to make with them and the tough bit of taking them apart - easier with my tool

Davesaat the only thing I can think of is the holes are bigger in the brought ones so if you can make them bigger, and using some newspaper to help .  Nice you found a black currant and strawberries and others   - you have done loads shed looks cute   great pics

Went to the allotment plot today got some strawberries planted that I grew from seed with pink flowers, bit of soil shiftling done and then lots of cutting down of weeds, I have a big area now with weeds, I cut down an area for the fire bin to go for the weekend -  I have one sunflower that has been opening over the last few days nice yellow one

At the allotments there is a load of bark/ leaf chipping that have been delivered may well get some

Marked out my pallets with 2 different coloured paint for the top of shed and bottom of shed, as of size  so when they get taken to the plot I don't have to measure them too much
