I got my space cleared at home in the veg bed for my winter veg I brought a while back cauliflower and kale, I know they sat in there pots from the gc for a while
any of you grown cape gooseberry I might give them a go next year
Hello everybody , went up to the plot this afternoon , unfortunately Rats have eaten some of the sweet corn , will take some pictures , still not worked out how to put pictures on the site , quite amazing how they have stripped the cobs
Also borrowed underneath the compost bin , so going to empty it sooner rather than later
Got some Kale growing for the first time , Chard and Spinach growing well
I nipped up the plot this evening to pull up the last of the potatoes and rhubarb
this weekends tasks are to get the strawberries planted, and hopefully the raspberries and redcurrants, if for no other reason then for the space in my garden lol
GWRS the tree symbol is for up loading pictures from your computer pic files
Not nice the rats ate your corn, I stopped them getting in to my raised bed with bit of Perspex up at one side as they were digging a hole in the side and making the compost come out
My first half plot is still very productive, so pleased I took the time to dig up weeds by the roots. There are few on it at present but was told they are slow growing after the longest day. I only visit it once or twice a week now the courgettes have slowed down, to weed, water and pick stuff. Still productive are the natsturgum for seeds and flowers.
Leeks, broccolli, sprouts, kale, celriac, chad looking good although some rust on the leeks,. I've a second harvest of strawberries too and the alpine one's have been fruiting all summer.
Today, I planted garlic in modules, at home, ready to plant out once the shoots start showing.
No more treasures on the new half plot but now that some area's have been sectioned off by either being dug over, covered and some paths laid with the recycled bricks, I've planted out a strawberry patch, globe articokes and fruit bushes transplanted from the first plot.
gardengirl thanks for the photo info , it worked , this is the other half of the allotment that we have taken on , our existing haft is in the back ground with the new shed , we both started at the same time , where they failed was they tried to do it all in one go instead of a bit at a time
Hi All, last trip to the plot was Sunday. I dug over a new bed for my raspberry canes and 2 small apple trees, planted them all and put some wood round the edges to finish it off neatly. The apple trees I plan to train over an arch (got one for £7 at The Range). Have not been able to get back as there has been so much going on at home, and my little dog has been very ill so have been back and forth to the vet. (she is much better now than goodness!)
GWRS your shed looks good - more grafting for you with another half a plot, I see you have some compost bins and water container, watering can and will that be another shed for you.
Will you plan different things for that half a plot?
You can add more pics now, well done for adding picture
I guess that is what some people do rush the plot which takes a lot of energy to do then after a bit give up on it shame when you wait a while to get a plot
Ginagibbs - apple trees are good, I have some I planted in the garden looking good
Hello everyone I'm reading this thread with interest as I'm new to allotment growing so taking it very slowly and inspired to see how hard you work but how good things grow!
I have half plot on an allotment which is part of a neighbours larger plot. They are working abroad for a year, didn't want to give it up so myself and others are looking after it for them taking turns on 'allotment duty'.
An option to have half came up so...I cleared just what I needed for two rows of potatoes, sweet corn and runner beans - very basic. Admit that I found it hard work especially in that hot weather. However, now digging another patch and will use part of it for a cutting bed.
Plan to grow sweet potatoes (discussed on that thread), soft fruits, spinach and sprouts. Tried to start purple sprouting in tub at home but plants ravaged so not sure for n allotment.
I will take photos on next visit look forward to more on here lots of ideas, thanks.
