Hello all , interesting how different allottment are

Ours had a huge car park at entrance and can drive all round the site I park at the side of mine as always seem to take lots of bits up with me

I would deffinatly be lost without a shed , I am impressed how organised those with out are image

    Been raining all day hear

  •  Lucky you with your parking GWRS, ours is only a small site, about 35 plots, and most are half plots. How many at your site? We dont have a shop, just a loo, but most plots have a shed. Parking can be a bit of a squish too, as the car parks not that big. I can walk there if need be as its only 10 mins away from my house.

Hello , there is 50 full allottments , some are divided into halfs and couple of thirds

We only have one problem plot holder at moment , when I say problem I mean a totally neglected plot she has now been given notice to sort it out

We get horse manure and tree shredding delivered free , just help your self

There is water on site but you buy it from the A committe , you can have sheds and greenhouses and keep 6 chickensimageWe have been real pleased with the placeimage

  • Gardengirl my saw is electric with a lead so can only use it at home-its in the garage so carn't tell you the make I'm afraid. Not too keen on battery stuff as have had problems in the past with the batteries.

We have a large car par at the main gate my plot is of course right at the other end but do have a gate virtually opposite my plot. I leave my car on the road outside the gate. I'd be lost without it as I do bring in loads of stuff.

Ginagibbs Lucky you - finding some furniture. I've stopped looking in skips, I think I've got more than enough. In fact I'm going to have a shed clear out and make it more homely.

  • GWRS that is why it is interesting seeing picture of allotment site as they can be so different and wondering round or being nosy when going past

Weyplotter I will wait for which one you brought

Got strawberry plants today though the post been soaking them trying them in a hanging basket this year

ginagibbs - I'm thinking retro and a pastel green for the table image

Our allotments are at the end of one of the longest row of terrace housing in Europe and it's a dead end, stopping were the gate is to the plots. It's the only way in and out for holders of 81 plots. If you google - 'Scotforth, Wikipedia' there's a couple of sentences at the end refering to Dorrington Rd. It might not be the longest terrace but it is long  image

Parking isn't a problem, most people live within walking distance or come on their bikes and bike racks were put in last yr. Providing plot holders who park outside the gate leave enough room for residents to turn their cars at the end of the terrace we manage to live in harmonyimage

We have our annual meeting on Thursday, hoping to get there..

Excellent news Stagbeetle , so pleased for you and it's nice the family are 'on board' too. A nice flat plot as well, looking at the pics, bet you can't wait to get stuck in image

Gardengirl......8th on the list, any idea what that equates to time wise?

Weyplotter....I'm impressed with your DIY....I wouldn't have a clue where to start!

Question for all.......where are you all from and how long have you been growing veggies?

  • Woo2 I'm brizzle born and bred. I've been growing tomatoes, chillies, peppers and cucumbers in the garden for about 3 years. I wanted to expand on what I was growing, so put my name dwn for an allotment and at the same time, took over some of my parents garden- they had the space and I had the ability so between us we could bring in enough to suit all of us. I clean forgot about the allotment until I came back from Greece in May last year. I got a phone call completely out of the blue, and well, you all know the rest!

Last year I grew many things that I'd never grown before- cabbages, caulis, brocolli, sweetcorn, peas, potatoes, raspberries, blackberries and even rhubarb!  This year, I will continue with most of those, plus whatever I feel like trying... Broad beans, onions, leeks, and goodness knows what else! I'm quite excited about the prospects for this year image

  • My plot is a 5 rod so the average size I think but enough room if we needed to put the car on to part of it as the tracks are quite wide, so lucky really.

we picked the keys up yesterday image but due to the rain, Mr stagbeetle and middle son couldn't see it till the afternoon. All the kids are excited and they went to the GC and picked the seeds they wanted to grow and already this morning the middle one asked when we're we going to put them in.

we have a friend who is a bee keeper and I think once the plot is established and know what I'm doing regarding growing veg then I will look into bee keeping.

Thank you for the links Gardengirl. You all must be so fit and organised if you can't park near your plots!

Woo2 I think on the email she said 1-3 months just hope I have moved up the list next time I contact them, I know one of the Site Reps at the allotment as he volunteers in the shop - so if there are plots looking a mess I may well ask when I go to the shop - not for a bit yet though as think he is the one that tells the council and list could get shorter

I am from Southampton and been growing veg now for about 5-6 years started with just runner beans, I took over the bottom of the garden which was a bramble mess cleared bits, made raised bed with help and started growing I was hooked, some stuff does well others not as veg area most of it in part shade as trees grew not planted ones in carpet we put down around edge of pond think birds helped with that - that was before the veg growing started   I have to walk from one end of garden with watering can though no way of having water butt in veg area no connection points

Always interested in allotments and when I found out the shop on the allotment was open to the public I went had a look around the second time I went for a wonder - as asked if we could - when wondering a lady going to do her watering said are we wanting an allotment the waiting list is not long at the minute, made me think about it for a few days and being on here with Zoomer44 saying about her plot, I decided to put my name down on a list that was last August

Stagbeetle so exciting 5 rods is a nice sized plot

Roy - how is your plot?
