Deciding on allottments we had choice of 2 so we went back later on ,on our own with a spade to have a proper look and a little dig , in the end we definaetly made the right decision and then told the site agent which one we wanted . Both whever in a bit of a bad way
Our allottments are privately owned by a local land owner/ farmer , so lot less strict rules than council run , has its good and bad points but on the whole it is fine
never looked back have enjoyed and continue to do so every minute there
GardenGirl - I hadn't even seen my first plot when I signed up - just pleased to get one at £2 a year!! I now have one in a different part of the village and it is £12 a year.
GardenGirl - it's a very basic plot and we are not allowed any constructions on them (sheds) or any animals (chickens) and only have one water tap between the lot of us to share.
My plot is £25 a year, so not too bad really, not sure how many plots there are. It was lovely seeing a family with 4 kids manage to make a lovely plot with 2 scarecrows.
the site has a shop that is open on sundays.
I took the husband and the boys to the site (couldn't get in as no key yet) and they can't wait to start we saw a fox wondering along the plots quite happily. We spoke to a chap there and was as advising us on what to do first and said he looks forward to seeing us down there, they are so friendly there!
Good morning such a lot to catch up on, everyone very busy in spite of the vagaries of the weather. Still too wet to do much on my plot, but peeked under the coverings and the soil looks good! Preparing to set seeds at the end of the month so cleaning trays and other containters.
Must sort out a garden border before then, replanting divided perennials. As its dry and mild a good day to do it.
Talking compost; I have horse manure rotting down in bags. Put some on turned beds last October when first had the plot and it is 'weathering' nicely!
My chicken run has wire on it OK, only on two of the lower sides but there is still wire on it
tomorrow looks like a complete washout allotment wise but I absolutely must get to the other plot this week and start getting it ready. Thankfully, there isn't a huge, huge amount to do but we have been so busy at the chicken site that we have only popped in at the first one once a week to check that everything is ok. Thank goodness it's still winter so nothing much going on there. I just feel a bit guilty about not being there very much
Forester2 your plots looks amazing in that pic shame you don't get to have a shed and only one lot of water, I guess you have to take drinks with you
BizzieB sounds as though the horse manure is doing well, have you got a shed on your plot now?
Fruitcake that is great part of the chicken wire on it is a big frame to cover, I think it may take you a while to do
Stagbeetle are you going to have an area for cut flowers? I see on the other thread you are getting your keys tomorrow - so free range of plot from then on
Been weeding part of station garden today lots of bulbs showing - going to start the broad beans off soon
