I was suffering from a (non-Covid) viral infection over the past week which resolved itself the other day. Yesterday my OH felt a bit off and asked if I had had a sore throat which I hadn't. She tested herself for Covid last night while I was out at the pub and it was positive. She was self-isolating in the spare bedroom when I got back and I am on nursing duties.
She missed the last 2 booster jabs as she can't take the Pfizer one which caused her heart problems and that is all that is being offered round here. Moderna is supposedly available but we have never found it.

I hope your wife only has a mild dose @steephill.

Thank you @Red maple. We enjoyed the craft fair, met friends there and had a snack lunch. I bought tickets for the tombola and the raffle. A friend has just rung to say I've won a raffle prize! I bought an oil painting of a winter scene with snow that a friend, an artist, painted and a Christmas wreath which is now hanging on the kitchen door under the porch.

  • Good afternoon,  horrible wet grey day again,  lots of heavy rain in the night.  Unusual for me it woke me up,  so not the best night.  Maybe it was in anticipation of the trial I'm starting.  I  have a glucose monitor for 2weeks and other tests to do. In spite of being skinny as the proverbial rake, I  am at risk of type  2 diabetes,  my father had it  my maternal grandmother too. So will be checking my responses to different foods. App was a pain to set up but I  think I have got there now.

Evening everybody. A grey dismal, wet day here but we enjoyed our lunch out with friends, good to get out and have a chat. All the roads were passable and the river had actually gone down since last month which was amazing. One of our friends sadly lost her husband last year and she was telling us that she has struggled with various minor domestic problems which of course her late husband used to deal with. A reminder to me perhaps that I need to refresh my DIY skills. She did say Youtube was very good at tutorials!

My brother, although still seriously ill, seems to be holding his own today which is good news and the hospital are trying to arrange a care package for when he's discharged. We shall see, he's very against the idea.

@steephill, hope your wife gets better soon. Surely it is up to your GP practice to source the most suitable vaccine for your wife? Hope you've kicked up a fuss.

Congrats @Busy-Lizzie, is the picture your raffle prize or have you won something else?

@Allotment Boy, they keep implying I might be pre-diabetic and knowing I have a sweet tooth I am trying to be mindful of the risks. Interesting that you tell us you're very skinny yet still at risk.

@Lizzie27 I bought the painting. The raffle prize is from a local distillery. I'll find out what tomorrow.

    Evening folks.

Slept like a baby after my 13 hour shift yesterday so had a quiet-ish day - saw Sister and family, quick SM run, took new slippers for Dad then home into PJs and making a curry now to have with Strictly (Blackpool week).

Take care all, particularly those with worries or illness.

Win from a distillery sounds good @Busy-Lizzie!

Gosh, I'd call that a busy day @AuntyRach, hope you enjoyed your curry and Strictly.

I forgot to mention when I posted earlier, that I must have dropped my house keys on the drive whilst unlocking the car and they were there for a good few hours until we came home mid-afternoon! Oops! Lucky for us that no-one else came - as far as we know.

Smooth journey up to Bath this morning. I’ve taken to treating myself to first class rail tickets, thanks to the discount with my senior railcard. Very thankful to be sitting in the first class carriage with two other people, while the guard was requesting passengers in standard class not to hog seats with their coats and bags while other passengers were standing. The train was already packed when we reached Bath, and there were crowds waiting to embark.
Had a great afternoon with the family, watching older grandson playing rugby for his school. He has just been promoted to the A team, and they had their first win this term. Proud granny thinks this is no coincidence! Yes, it was muddy! Not cold though, and no rain materialised.
Celebratory take out for dinner, then board games. Laughed myself sick! Early night for all. Down to the Rec in the morning to watch younger grandson doing rugby training. I’m really loving this!
Hoping everyone recovers from aches, pains, Covid and the side effects of falling down stairs.

I can hear the joy in your voice, @Ergates.
