Good evening all. It's been another extremely wet day, we have yellow/orange alert for flooding. We are on a hill so unlikely to affect us. Annoyed at the EU decision to allowed another 10 years of glyphosate use. Happy Bayer then 𤬠We need to redo our driveway, we are considering epoxy resin, guy gives us 20 yrs guarantee. And no removing the old slabs. We will be mulling over it for days to come, we are not known for quick decisions š
@coccinella France has already banned Glyphosate. I have a long drive and I'm afraid I miss it. It's hard to keep my hoggin drive free from weeds which make it quite slippy to drive down the slopey bit in wet weather.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I am pleased the ban on glyphosate has been put back - it's the only thing I find actually works, the substitutes don't work at all.Ā I bought some online a few months ago to kill off some problematic ivy roots and will keep it for difficult weeds/shrubs etc. Could you get hold of some in the UK and take it back to France?
Bright and sunny this morning with autumn dampness.
@Lizzie27 Ā What frightening news ! Ā These damn cigarettes - and vaping seems to be just as bad. Ā Sending my best wishes to you. Ā I don't think it would be wise to bring glysophate from UK into France. Ā It's sorta smuggling!! Ā
I have to rest a bit more this morning after the cortisone injection so I have decided to make a start on the Christmas puddings. Ā I can cut up bits of dried fruit and still be sitting.
Ā To the Elizabeths on this site: Ā Sainte Elisabeth nous montre, quel bonhomme l'hiver sera. Ā Ā Ā Ā - but I doubt very much whether this mild weather will continue for much longer. It's a golden autumn with sunny afternoons - down here - not so for other parts of France. Ā We are in desperate need of some decent rain while other parts are mopping their floors.
Good morning all š āļøĀ 7C and grey here ⦠but itās quiet and still ⦠the wind has dropped and the deep golden bronze oak trees across the rise look even more beautiful today.Ā

Listening to R2 instead of R3 this morning so we can hear Vernon Kay arrive in Bolton ⦠over Ā£3m for Children in Need ⦠just amazing and so heartwarming. š
Mind you I still have an undercurrent of anger that so many children depend on charity for theirĀ necessitiesĀ in one of the richest countries in the world ⦠a real demonstration that thereās something fundamentally wrong ⦠some of you know that I used to work in a social work team supporting children with severe disabilities and life-limiting conditions ⦠it seemed so wrong that I had to apply to charities for things that the children really needed, to have what the rest of us take for granted as a normal quality of life šĀ

My sister was a children's social worker and Daughter 1's French husband works for children's social services in France. It seems so wrong that there are wealthy people with millions and famillies who are struggling to make ends meet. I watched "Time" last night when we came back from the pub Folk Evening and felt so sorry for the single mother with 3 children who had gone to prison for electricity fraud and her children had been taken into care. I know it's only fiction but it happens in real life.
@Lizzie27 I couldn't risk getting caught smuggling glyphosate.Ā
We are going to a musical play in a local village hall tonight.

How do the economics of that even begin to make sense? ⦠not to mention the psychological and emotional impact on the children which, trust me, will definitely have a financial impact on society in the future. š¢ šĀ

I agree @Dovefromabove itās absolutely both horrific and very saddening that a lot of families canāt afford their basic needs. Itās worrying to think about what impact it will have on those children for years to come. It just all seems so wrongĀ
In my last post I honestly thought my Father would pass away imminently.Ā However I am pleased to bring everyone slightly better news.Ā He is being given two antibiotics intravenously and also glucose.Ā His condition has improved a little, however he is still fairly ill.Ā He has aspiration pneumonia (a known complication from his late-stage Parkinson's Disease).Ā All we can do now is hope for the bestĀ (my back is, alas, singing from all the driving).
Storm Debi brought 118kph winds (73mph) here, and sadly blew down a few trees, but happily there were no fatalities in the district.Ā Surprisingly the electricity stayed on throughout.Ā Other good news is that the bridge to the nearest town has, astonishingly, been repaired (there had been predictions that it would takes ages and ages).Ā
Best wishes to @tui34 regarding your knee and hip.Ā Ā I hope someone is able to genuinely help you.
I also send best wishes and hopes for a full recovery to your Brother due to his double pneumonia @Lizzie27
@coccinella The scarf situation was not your fault.Ā As far as I can see you are a consistently good person, and have nothing to feel guilty about, either concerning scarves or anything else.Ā Best wishes with your thyroid issues.
@D0rdogne_Damsel As a more or less lifelong singleton, I am the last person to give you any advice about the situation with your friend.Ā However there has been much wise advice from other people on here.Ā I hope for a good outcome for you.
Glad that you survived that nasty incident with the fallen tree @steephill
There are certain other residents in the nursing home I have grown fond of, and bring gifts to.Ā Sadly one of them passed away recently.Ā Below is a photo of something I made to give her during the Summer.Ā It was my first-ever, and so far only, attempt at calligraphy.Ā Being kind to myself, I'll say that the border is adequate, but the lettering needs more work.Ā It brought her happiness, which was the main thing anyway.
Stay safe ladies and gentlemen.
