One more Monday is over, and I'm back to my routine. I went after school to the cottage just to se if everything is in order. Except soaked soil and puddles all over, it was all fine. Now is time for dinner and hot cup of tea.
T'bird, thank you for offering recipe for mince pies. I would love to have one which is already proved delicious. Hope all other ladies will wrote their own (if it's not top secret 😁). I looked online and saw that in some recipe for mine you must add suet. Is there any substitute for that? Thank you all in advance.
Afternoon Ante. I guess you are thinking of making your own mincemeat? There are some recipes for fat free mincemeat online. Here are a couple for you:
p.s. I should have said Ante that I buy ready made mincemeat but, like T'Bird, I add brandy and occasionally chopped walnuts to it before filling the pies.

A doctor sent a prescription for OH by email and said antibiotics were ready to pick up at the surgery. I've picked them up, hope they work, he's very chesty and sounds like a frog.

@Ante - yes I'm like LB and just buy decent mincemeat to which I add walnuts, cranberries (or dried cherries) and a tot of brandy or port.
I suspect you won't be able to buy mincemeat in Croatia (or probably anywhere outside the UK!). I've never made my own but I know it's straightforward - so just follow the recipes LB has supplied and add anything extra you fancy.
Then you'll just need some sweet shortcrust pastry to which you can add the zest of an orange if you like a little citrus burst.
You can also use puff pastry or filo pastry. They'll give a different texture but still delicious. Filo pastry mincemeat parcels topped with flaked almonds are very good.

Busy, I'm pleased to read that the Doctor has sent a prescription for some antibiotics for your OH. Give it 48 hours to get them in to his system and , fingers crossed, he will start to feel a bit better. Keep him warm and out of this nasty cold snap we're having as it's freezing outside. Brrrrr Ante, good to hear all is well at the cottage, plenty of muddy spots and puddles here too. Low temperatures again too, we are destined for them all week😫 LB, hope you manage to get some sleep tonight, you'll be shattered but try not to fall asleep until bedtime.🙂
Thank you LB and T'bird. I'll need to make my own mince because here I can't buy prepared one. Next weekend I'll go to buy ingredients for baking and try to find everything I need.
