    Good afternoon everyone,

Someone has been very busy @rowlandscastle444. Those toppers are very good. Seems a shame that they are going to get a drenching in this awful rain , though.

Ventured out late this morning to do the SM shop and managed to avoid the heaviest rain, but it soon came back heavier once we got home. Since then, I’ve pottered indoors. I’ve weighed out the fruit for the whisky Dundee cake which I’ll make tomorrow. The fruit is now steeping in whisky. We prefer Dundee cake to Christmas cake as it’s not so heavy. Once made tomorrow, it will have a couple more feeds of whisky before the big day.

What a lovely surprise from your friends for youΒ @Ladybird4. I bet you had a fabulous afternoon.

What a lovely surprise LB! How good of your friends to organise Β it for you.Β
We've put our outside xmas as lights up this afternoon, it was so dark they could have gone have gone on then. What a dank day.
I particularly Β like the chain topper @rowlandscastle444. Clever folks.
Dundee Β cake sounds delish @Red maple.

    Evening all,

Got the work done that HAS to be finished today, so doing some e-filing whilst watching The Chase :)Β Β

Weather has been grim today - getting pretty waterlogged in places. Not sure when I'll eventually get all the stuff planted that needs to be in yesterday :oΒ Β

Eldest's orchid is still going, @Ladybird4. It's got a new root and leaves growing at the top of a stem. Have you ever propagated from a cutting?

Thank you for your comments re my early birthday party - I had a marvellous time.
@rowlandscastle444 thank for sharing those charming pictures with us. A group of people have done a marvellous job.
@Red maple, like Hazel I love the sound of Dundee cake. May have to try that. I soak my fruit in sherry.
@Biglad, I have never attempted an orchid cutting so if you or your eldest attempt it I would love to know how you get on with it.

Evening all (or should I say "Salve" to Hazel πŸ˜‰?)

Good to hear you had a nice surprise day LB - lovely to have friends who organise that for you.Β

Rubee - please pass on my best wishes to Rosie. I miss her postingsπŸ™‚.

Full day for me today. Up to Norwich for coffee with my brother and then only a quick mooch around the shops as I wanted to get home before itwas completely dark.

The country lanes around here are truly dreadful at the moment & driving in the dark is difficult. Covered in mud and deep puddles hiding even deeper potholes. Plus there are major roadworks on the A14 and from about 3pm there are many vans and cars trying to bypass the contraflows. Makes for very dangerous driving on our mainly single car width lanes. So many complaints about it and lots of temporary speed restrictions but it hasn't done much to improve the poor driving of people who don't seem to know how to drive to the conditions.

All the locals do whatever they can to avoid being on the roads between 3 and 6pm at the moment. 6 months in and another 6 months to go...

Might have a trip out to the big Chrismas barns up the road tomorrow.

Morning all. Topbird, that journey does sound somewhat difficult at the best of times, without the roadworks and the early dark days. It was dark here yesterday from about 2.30pm and we had the lights on.
I've been awake since just before 4am, can't sleep, mind on overdrive. Having a cuppa.

    Morning all (from the CA),

It's fine and mild here, which is a nice change. Just nipped out to get the milk and check the bins. I didn't notice both wagons coming yesterday, which is because one of them didn't :o I can't remember that happening before. I hope they come today - don't want to mimic Warrington's issues.

Unless I get another 'little job' dumped on me, today should be a relatively light work day. I'm going to try and sneak a couple of skives and get something useful done. I can fit some magnetic locks to the hall cloak cupboard within hearing range of my laptop (for e-mail and Teams 'pings') but going out to do some planting would have more risk of my absence being noticed....
