Ante - your mincemeat sounds delicious - especially with your own additions. What with that and LB's Christmas cakes - I'm starting to feel quite hungry!
Congratulations on the results for last night LB. Have you watched the series The Secret Genius of Modern Life? Think it would be very much your cup of tea. We've only just discovered it. Now on the second series, but all the episodes are on iPlayer so we're watching one a day. Presented by a maths lecturer who takes things like smart phones, bank cards etc apart and looks at how they work, how they were developed and the technology / systems that support them. Excellent little series!
Congratulations to you too @rowlandscastle444. Hope you'll be very happy in your new home. We moved house at the tale end of November (13 years ago) and as the removals men unlocked the vans to start unpacking the first flakes of snow fell.... With our very rural location we spent the next week nearly cut off (not able to get out of the drive on a few days) with not much in the way of logs or oil for heating and not much in the store cupboards or freezer because they'd all been run down before the move.π¬
We also had 4 weeks (exactly) to get unpacked, sorted, furniture put together, house properly cleaned, 3 rooms decorated, Christmas food bought & prepared, decorations up and smiles pinned to our faces before the in-laws arrived for Christmas! I don't think I've worked so hard for so many hours a day either before or since!!
Decoration was definitely required in those 3 rooms - one was bubble gum pink and the other 2 were Tango orange - just could not live with them!!!
Latin class tonight so best check I've done all the homework...
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Your turn for snow now @Ante1, makes a mess when it turns to slush doesn't it? Some of you will have glorious smelling kitchens today with all that's being made. LB, latter one was sorted.( I'm trying to dodge a bullet hereπ€ππ).Β Red maple, glad you enjoyed your catch up with collleagues. With the literal loss of some my old work mates, our little get togethers seem to have stopped now.Not many of us leftπ’ Topbird, crikey, your home changing day and following month smacks of a true baptism of fireπ²π± At least you could curse in Latin π€
Good to see you T'Bird. I blanched when I read your story of your house move all those years ago. Must have been shattered at the beginning of that particular New Year.
I am recording the series you mentioned - can't wait to see the one about the vacuum cleaner. I am beginning to think that I should forget about recordings and just use iPlayer. I have discovered I quite enjoy blitz watching.
Hazel, most of my quiz team (not the heavy duty league team I've been invited to join) are ex colleagues and we were flabbergasted to learn last week that the school we had taught in is now in special measures and all the Governors have been sacked by Ofsted. I didn't even know Ofsted had that power! It was a hot topic of conversation at last Friday's lunch. So sad when we knew how good the school had been and we were left wondering as to what had gone so badly wrong.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
LB, the Ofsted team have been spreading dread and fear for decades. I remember how OH used to be during their inspections, luckily he was one of those teachers who didnt suffer at their hands but being with others who were, was distressing and annoying. Power mad the lot of them, they should be abolished and some better procedure put in place. Something that isn't God like. ( sorry). It certainly makes you wonder about the ratings too, as in your old school- can it go so badly wrong? Are all the staff and head that wrong? Don't get me started..... ...wish I could curse in Latinππ€π
Brother has telephoned today, we may be getting close to selling mumβs home, my old home of over 60 years π’π’
A very good morning one and all. Frosty start to the day - just because I'm thinking of going shopping!
What's the betting I have left something important off my list? I did remember last night that I need some more mixed spice but can that be regarded as important - maybe not

What lovely post toppers @rowlandscastle444! Very festive.
Friends are coming to dinner tonight so I've been cooking and re-arranging things. Not sure if I can use the word t.d...g.
