Morning all. Cold outside this morning, 5 degrees brrr......my cousin in Australia is enjoying wonderfully high temperatures at the moment, she can't cope with our temps now. She calls 15 freezingπ€ Debs, glad to hear you're enjoying your holiday and the local Bakewell cuisine. My OH used to like Β bakewell tart too but can't eat the pastry now.Β We don't really have a cold windowsill in this house but things tend to do okay on our kitchen windowsill which faces North East. The temperature in the greenhouse this morning is 10 degrees so will wrap some fleece round it and keep checking and bring it indoors if it gets desperately cold in there. Busy, glad you've made it back to the UK okay, good friends are lovely to pick you up Β but brrr the cottage was cold. Hopefully today, it will warm up nicely with fires and bodies being around.Β Red Maple, too too cold here to be doing anything outside. It's bad enough trailing down to the greenhouseπ¬π Ante, miserable morning there for you. Many of our trees have lost their leaves too but ai can well imagine the tussle you'll have putting up decs with leaves all over. Keep warm today and wrap up well if you go out.Β We, too, Rubee, will be watching the Remembrance Β service and the BLF of REM service tonight. .Β
It was dark at 5pm, bit of a shock! I hate these dark evenings. France is an hour ahead so dark at 6pm, much prefer it.
Sitting room has warmed up now, 23C, though the rest of the cottage is cooler. The woodburner is making a difference. We need to find a log supplier, bit pricey buying bags at a village shop.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good afternoon all. What a chilly day it has been today. I did watch the Lord Mayor's Parade and observed the two minutes silence and then I then braced myself and had Lily's TV on and eventually got all the wet cloth things hung out. Several hours passed and the wet cloth things were still as wet as when they first went out. I gave in and collected them all up. At least they got an airing!
Hazel, your kitchen window sill will be ideal for the very coldest of days/nights.
Pleased to hear you have got the cottage nice and toasty Busy. Good idea to source a log provider though. Have you enough room for a massive delivery?
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
I've done the same as you today LB, hung stuff out which came back in just as wet. We've had to put heating on this afternoon, it went rather chilly. Could have done with @Busy-Lizzie log burnerπ Hope you manage to source some logs Busy. Ive fleeced the little rose cutting LB but thanks for the tip about the kitchen windowsill. Might bring it in regardless. I wouldn't like to stay in the greenhouse all nightπ²π Have rang them Home and been reassured that mum is getting her daily eye drops but that they are still very red. They will call in the a doctor again if they haven't improved by the time the treatment is finished.Β
Hazel, if it was me, I would keep the rose cutting in my house
throughout the winter - as long as the window sill was cool. The news
about your Mum must have brought you a little comfort.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Good morning Ante - I beat you to it this morning as I've had my first cup of the day already. Its a little bit cloudy here today but we haven't had the frost that was forecast last night.

LB, I treated myself with additional hour in bed this morning. I was awake till midnight, and made some plans for trip. I'm glad you didn't have frost. According to long-term forecast, this winter will be unusually warm.Β Β

It's sunny and fresh morning. I might go out later in front garden. Tea is first.
