Gawd, the fireworks are at full throttle just outside our house! It sounds like theyβre setting off bombs they are so loud. What a racketβ¦β¦ π±π±
Evening all. A late sign-in from our overnight wildcamp at a ferry terminal in Scotland (glamorous eh??π). We've rented a cottage on Islay for a week and the ferry leaves at 8am from the middle of nowhere so it was either a ridiculously early start or a night in the camper at the terminal.
Set off from home yesterday morning in the middle of the storm (just rain, not wind thank goodness) and had to divert almost immediately as the A14 was closed due to flooding. Glad we left when we did because by late morning our village was once again completely cut off by the floods. Think roads were passable today, but rain is forecast again for tomorrow. The ditches are full, the fields are saturated so expect there will be more problems.
Spent last night with MIL and it was good to see her. We'll also stop there on the way home.
Looking forward to Islay. The cottage looks very comfy and is about 20metres from the beach & a 10 minutes cycle ride from Port Ellen. There's a log burner to snuggle in front of while we watch the waves crashing whilst sampling the local produce. On this tiny island I think there are 8 whisky distilleries, 1 gin distillery, a brewery, and several places selling boat-fresh seafood both to eat in or to take home. T'would be very rude not to support the local economy wouldn't it.....ππ₯
We should have wi-fi. Knowing the Scottish Isles it will either be inner-city hyper-fast or rural Devon painfully slow. Speak soon if it's ok.
Rubees - hope you get a better night.Β
Ante - when are you coming to London?
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Great to read your post this morning T'Bird. I think supporting the local industries is an absolute 'must' - as well as bringing back several souvenirs of your visit. Its a bit scary reading your village was cut off again.Β
My friend from Crewe texted me yesterday to say that on her return drive home she was held up for 40 minutes on the M6 because of an accident although she didn't say whether it was weather related. I wouldn't be surprised after the torrential rain we experienced. I also had a very happy text from my Bestie (still full of cold when I spoke with her after I got home) telling me that finally, after an agonising 8 months, probate has been granted on her partner's house. We were all delighted with that news. She is so relieved and happy. Now she can move on.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
T'bird, have a lovely week on Islay, hope you will have nice weather. I'll come to London on 21. November and stay for 5 days.Β
Rather peaceful morning, and yesterday I had romantic candle light evening thanks to storm and wind. Power was off from 7pm till early this morning. Next week should be much better. All pets are fed, and they are again sleeping, bird feeders are refiled, so I can have my tea. It's Christmas movie on tv. Later must go to the SM, I have only two more tea bags.Β Β

I hope you have a safe journey, @Topbird and enjoy Islay.
Good news about the probate, LB.
There is a howling gale here. It's much worse near the west coast, a new storm, Domingos. I hope it doesn't cause much damage.
