It's worth a try Rubee. I sometimes do that if I just know I won't Β get back to sleep. It works for me.
Well, the sun has come which is lovely to see. Time to be out and getting cracking. I've opened the shed only to find three small unopened bags of compost, have soaked the wooden floor underneath them, so have found them a new place outside and hope now, with the door wide open, that the floor may dry out. It has got a bit of mould on the top so I don't want that taking hold . I'll have to have a tidy up in there now.Β
@r@rowlandscastle444 , exciting ( but nerve wracking) times just now for you and OH. a take a day at a time, don't overthink things, do what's needed, one room at a time, and you'll be there.Β

Hazel and Rubee, I take paracetamol with a drink in the night when I can't sleep, juice or hot chocolate, and it helps me go back to sleep. Not tea or coffee, makes me want the loo!
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

@Ladybird4 it’s near Buxton and has a covered hot tub so let it rain! We are planning a trip to Chatsworth and also want a day in Bakewell so I can sample the produce.Β
Just what we both need after such a stressful few weeks.Β
We are hosting our usual bonfire party on Sunday then drive over on Monday for a whole week.Β

Sounds as if you're going to have a great time @debs64 during your break away. I hope it helps to relax you both and shrug off some cares for a while. Bonfire sounds good too, be safe though!

    Afternoon all,

Been an unexpectedly glorious morning here. It's now clouding over ready for the weekend :oΒ

I've actually finished what I need to do this week. That normally happens around 7-8pm so feeling less stressed than previous Fridays. I can catch up with filing and get started on some of next week's prep now. Possibly my last on this job....

  • Been in the loft. Found stuff that I brought from the loft of our previous house, 22 years ago. Opened them (yes, more than one box!!), threw lots of stuff out, but re-boxed to move on.
Crazy? Yes, quite possibly, but I just can't bring myself to sling it.
Wife on the other hand, is more pragmatic. She says she's thrown more away - but there again, she's collected documents from four dead relatives, plus one still alive.Β
I'm flabbergasted at how much stuff is in the loft. Includes some old prints belonging to my grandfather, which I can't throw out. They are worth quite a bit - but there again, why were they in the loft?
Because we don't have enough wall space.
    Sigh.

Good afternoon all. Really enjoyed the meet up with the quizzers and the meal was really good - one of the better places we have been to since we started doing this over 2 years ago.
Hazel, I hope that your shed floor dries out quickly - that is the last thing you need at this time of year.
Ruby, I do hope that the recommended remedies work for you tonight and that you get a goodnight's sleep for once.
Debs, I remember you staying somewhere before where there was a hot tub. Is this the same place?
Biglad, I hope that this will be the last on this job and you can have a breather before you start the next round. DENTIST!
Rowlandscastle444, time to be ruthless!. I have stripped everything out of my loft apart from luggage and some tech stuff boxes - those will be discarded soon as warranties are up and I don't need to hang on to the boxes and polystyrene packages - in case I needed to return things.

  • I found one box of photos I brought back from work, when we were having a clear out. About the size of a ream of A4 paper and more.
I'm sentimental. I'd like to try and sell them, but my employer would probably want the funds. Old photos of ships - from tankers that carried 30,000mt, to VLCCs that carried over 300,000mt. Plus lots in between.
But my wife is right in saying they've been there for 13 years or more, so ditch them. But it's historical.
Plus those 18th century castle prints in frames. A whole black sack of them. My grandfather's. I was given them because of my interest. Only my wife isn't so keen.Β  She always said I could have the shed, loft, and garage.
    Humph!!

rowlandscastle444, have you given any thought to gifting the photos to a suitable museum? Last year My brother and I gifted all of my Dad's uniforms that suddenly appeared from my Mum's bungalow - after we had sold it - to a local RAF museum. They were very grateful and we were happy in knowing that they would be on display and also used for 'dressing up' when they had school childen in to visit. You could also think about possibly auctioning some of your precious items. Just a thought.
