@Lizzie27  … I would fry the mushrooms gently in a little oil and butter before adding them otherwise I find they can go soft and a bit watery if simply added to liquid.Ā

I’d reheat at 160C for about 45mins … stirring a couple of times. Ā Have a lovely meal. Perfect for this weather.Ā

After our slow start to the day son has set off in the big Mercedes’ splitterbus clutching a coffee … it’s quite foggy out there and worse in Suffolk apparently… he has to get to Martlesham and swap vehicles. He’ll be back here Ā this evening.Ā
I’m going to catch the bus to Wrose and get a few bits for the weekend. OH will stay here in case my knitting yarn arrives …

    Morning all.Ā
There are 3 young men in my attic removing the old loft insulation.Ā
The new stuff should be installed today too.Ā
Air source heat pump and new radiators are stored in the garage and should be fitted next week.

Hello all, bright with a very chilly wind here today. I went to pick up a prescription from the pharmacy this morning and took back a pile of accumulated medicines that were out of date.Ā
Yesterday I painted walls in our now re-arranged house since our extension was built, but somehow we just don't seem to be able to get things done, only in dribs and drabs, we need a plan of action! It seems to be one step forward and one back at the moment.

Thanks for that @Dovefromabove, I'll add a note to that effect in my Mary Berry cookbook!Ā  Just out of curiosity, what is a Mercedes splitter van?

I've just discovered that our existing front door rug doesn't now fit in the space unless we cut it round the new newel post. It's a quite large, good quality pure wool one and I didn't particularly want to buy a new one. If we get a smaller one, then we'll also need to get the Sapele floorboards resanded and polished as the sunshine has faded the rest.
    Hey ho.

@Hostafan1, Wish I had three young men in the attic!
You'll be toasty warm soon before the cold weather really kicks in.

I know just what you mean @floralies, our small spare bedroom is piled high with stuff at the moment and needs a big clearout but I can't get up any enthusiasm for the task.

I was going to answer you @Lizzie27 but turned the page and saw that @Dovefromabove has said just what I was going to say!

    It's tipping with rain again.

I've been to my GP for a check up and blood test prescription. He wanted to check that my tum is OK after I had that bout of diverticulitis. It is.

Going back to son dentist in a minute to have a sharp bit of tooth filed as it's made my tongue sore. It's next to the one that was removed and is because of the little bit that chipped off last year.

  • Morning everyone (just) , well I woke with a start this morning convinced it was Saturday and I hadn't put the green bin out. Luckily before I rushed out in my PJ'S I looked out ofĀ  the front bedroom window and noted no neighbours had their bins out, went on the computer to check if it really was the correct week, and it is, but while doing that realised it's Friday so it doesn't need to be out till tonight for tomorrow.Ā Ā So IĀ  guess it's off to Terry Wogan's happy home for the permanently bewilderedĀ  for me then!🤣

@Hostafan1, did you apply for the insulation etc or did they just offer it?Ā  IĀ  am very pleased for you but curious as to how you qualify. IĀ  guess part of it is because you're not on the gas grid.

I really need to get out into the garden, only a few more days to green bin day, but I’ve been assisting OH this morning. He has been adjusting one of the internal doors which has been sticking, and I need to be on hand to wield the vacuum cleaner while he is planing and sanding things. I’ve managed to change the bed, get laundry on, and washed one of the bird feeders, so I’ve been busy while staying within call.

We are also having to do a bit of reorganising of ā€˜stuff’. We took down a wall cabinet when we had the artex ceiling plastered over, and it’s been languishing in the spare room tripping everyone up since last year. OH finally got it put back up yesterday, in a new place. I had to empty the side board underneath, so all my fancy plates and bowls are covering the dining table. Now got to decide which of our ornaments and the like are going in the wall shelves. Ā
What a shame about your rug, @Lizzie27. Do you have a local carpet shop, who might be able to cut the corner off and whip the edges? And keep the spare bit to sew back on in the future if you need to!

Back from Wrose … buses are running late .. a combination of roadworks, half term and a new driver … but I’ve done the shopping … it’s amazing how much you can get into my trolley-bag thingummy.

A splitter van is like a big luxury minibus at the front half, luxury seating … everything like a first class airplane cabin with entertainment etc, and the back half is more like a van where a touring hands equipment is carried.Ā

    @Allotment Boy
I contacted / answered ads on facebook offering FREE stuff.Ā
Some didn't bother to reply, some did, but said I wasn't eligible but this company dug a little deeper.Ā
There's no mains gas locally ( nearest is 10 miles away ) so I have an oil boiler.
If one is in receipt of certain benefits you can apply.
There is also the option if the total household income is less than £31,000 a year.
I'm having loft insulation, air source heat pump, solar panels and new radiators.Ā
I declined the offer of cavity wall insulation. I spoke to the guy who built the house and he says we just have too much rain / humidity and there are folk who are paying £ thousands to have sopping wet insulation removed from the cavity walls.
If you google Eco 4Ā  grants, you should get lots of information there.

Congratulations to you @Hostafan1 on persevering and getting all this stuff to make your house eco-friendly and toasty warm!Ā  When we looked to have new loft insulation we were turned down as the loft space is too small.Ā  It would need a small child to get in there to roll it through to the back.

I was up before you today @Dovefromabove!Ā  Woke up at 7am, got up to make a cup of tea to take back to bed but stayed up.Ā  But have been stuck on my laptop ever since...

Off out soon though - going to a local farm cafe for afternoon tea with my daughter who miraculously hasn't gone into school, despite it being half-term.Ā  She often goes in during the hols to get her classroom sorted.
