Morning everyone,Β The sun is shining, there's a bit of a breeze and it's a bit chilly outside. Just had a wander round the garden and will sort some pots out today, some plants have gone over already. Starting to look very autumnal already.Β @Biglad so very sorry to hear that about your mum. As @Rubee said, that must be hard to write about. Sending a big hug too.Β Thank you @wfnp5bk4spsSNFYKh1
Oh Biglad, I am so very sorry to hear that. It must have been horrendous for you all at the time.
Ruby, I finally got the hollyhocks potted on - just as well as I am expecting more plug plants soon. I've filled the birdfeeders, done a bit of weeding, picked lots more of my tomatoes. I will ring Jack in a minute and see if he has heard anything from his daughter. I imagined yesterday was going to be my last 'pensioner sitting' day!
SGL, I have a large geranium in my garden and as I walked passed it with the full bird feeder, I noticed that all of the leaves were lacy. The plant looked as though it have been shot with a dozen pellet guns. I looked on the undersides of several leaves but there was no sign of any critter. Most curious. When it is a bit drier I think I will take the shears to it.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
There will be a full moon tonight. The sky was too cloudy last night to see the moon properly. It's cloudy now and may rain this afternoon.
I've been sweeping up leaves before it rains on them.
The window man is coming this afternoon about the cracked dining room window and a tree man is coming at midday about trimming the lime tree which has got too big and is too near the chimney. Same tree people who came to get the leylandii hedge under control and cut down a dead tree when I moved here. They left me a lovely pile of wood chippings that I've been using for mulching the shrub bed.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Busy, I'm not sure that I will get a good view of the blue moon tonight as Carol, the weather forecaster on the Beeb, said it would be seen better on the eastern side of the country, assuming of course that the skies are not obscured by clouds. I hope that you get a reasonable quote from your window man.

Updated my meter readings and had a telephone call with them. Β What a warm day itβs been, so warm, Iβve changed into some cool night clothes. Β Salad for tea with baked bread and cottage cheese, a welcome change. Β LB enjoy the tomatoes, I didnβt have any so a green salad but very nice with lettuce and crunchy celery. Lily Iβm enjoying the warm weather before an autumn arrives and we need our coats again.
primrose wood
in primrose wood, I walked among the trees, where catkins danced, pirouetting in the breeze. a dusting of frost was laced upon the boughs, my voice suspended in the frozen air as clouds. the trees heaved and sighed, their breath upon my face, ancient yet ageless, no sense of time or place. the darkness receded with a gap up in the crown, and streams of gold and silver, fell in pools upon the ground. standing in a spotlight, on a leafy mossy bed, with legs like little twigs, and a breast of ruby red. a small soprano singer, with a clear and fluting sound, his melodies cascaded, several octaves up and down. at once hopeful and despairing, I held my breath to hear, as an angel at my shoulder, said I love you loud and clear. the vaulted woodland ceiling, could not hold onto his song, it ascended swiftly skywards, with a flourish and was gone.
Rosie, that is so lovely. My little Robbie is a bit like that. He scolds me when the bird feeder is empty. That has just reminded me, when I was bringing wet cloths of the string thing last night I heard a tawny owl hooting from the trees at the bottom of the field. I stood for a couple of minutes listening. It was quite magical.

I've had quite a busy day, starting with leaf sweeping. Almost filled a very big "big bag". Then I've been moving logs in the barn to make room for the metal Ikea cupboard I bought second hand to put small gardening tools in. I've swept out the barn, which is also the garage. Lily's TV was busy too and I managed to get her efforts off the line before the rain started.Β
Tree man came, quoted 400β¬ to pollard the lime tree which is too near the house and coppice the scruffy, unfruitful hazelnut tree. He said the other lime tree which is huge and near the donkey paddock was beautiful. It is and it is in the right place. He said not to touch the other hazelnut tree which has lots of hazelnuts as it's beautiful too and quite old but has never been pruned.
Window man came, will send a quote. It's double glazed so the whole unit will have to be replaced. He will also quote for changing 2 kitchen windows to double glazed ones.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Been outside all day - much pottering and lots of little jobs done. The freshly emptied garden waste bin is empty no more!
Thanks for all the comments about my mum. It was a long time ago and everyone had to come to terms with it. I had her 7 week old grandchildren to keep me occupied.
I'm told that we've got a period of relatively good weather on the way. Fingers crossed that it isn't fake news.
