Morning all from the Stena Line ferry. Got a surprise upgrade treat when we boarded. That will give us access to free drinks and snacks for the day so a positive start to the journey.

Unfortunately we were literally about to drop the lines when a medical emergency was declared and we're now waiting for an ambulance to take the unfortunate passenger off. Fortunately it doesn't seem to be too serious but they won't set off knowing somebody might be really ill in the middle of the north sea.

If it was me I'd be having kittens thinking about my car / van travelling unaccompanied to The Netherlands - wonder what they do with it on arrival? Hope it's not the vehicle in pole position - that could cause a problem! Sure they have protocols for dealing with it all.

Hazel - sorry to hear your visit was upsetting. I'm sure that deep down you know it's the best you can do for her, but it's not easy is it? Hugs for you.

    Morning all.

Think I forgot to post yesterday. Was busy, nearly finished painting the stairwell.

I was due to fly back to Stansted on the 15th September but the French air traffic controllers are going on strike. The tickets were more expensive than usual and there weren't many flights, winter timetable, my flight on the 15th was the cheapest. I looked at the timetable yesterday and Ryanair had added another flight on the 12th, a bit later than the usual one, and it was about a third the price I'd paid. They must have done it because of the strike. Anyway I booked it.

Problem was that my printer didn't work and I needed to print a boarding pass. Thought I'd have to find a friend with a printer. Then Son 2 rang, he suggested finding the printer queue in my computer and cancelling it. I managed that and it's worked! Printed the boarding pass.

OH was driving to his daughter yesterday, for the weekend, and there was a pothole and he got a puncture. His car doesn't have a spare tyre, just a can of something you spray into the valve but he couldn't make it work so he called the AA, had to wait 1 1/2 hours. They took the car to a garage, but it was shut, so his daughter came and collected him, luckily it wasn't too far from Eastbourne where she lives. They went to the garage this morning and it was still shut, despite a notice on the door saying it was open. There was another garage round the corner and they have changed the tyre.

    Afties all.
Thank you for the kind words, yes, I do know it's the right thing to do for mum, for all the right reasons. It's just my own personal guilt I have to get over and I'm sure Β those of you, who have had to do it , will understand the feelings during these early days following these tough decisions. I do hope Mum will look a little happier next time we see her.Β

It's been lovely and warm today and I've had a good clear out of the under the stairs cupboard. Had Lily's Tv on for some of the items and plenty was disposed of.Β

  • Afternoon everyone, It's been a beautiful warm sunny afternoon. Did some gardening this afternoon. Got the plants in the border and did some weeding. It actually got too hot to be outside. Our weather is strange this year.
@Songbird-2 I know exactly how you are feeling, I felt the same.Β  Sending hugs.

Good afternoon all. Oh my goodness T'Bird, what a start to your latest adventure! Of course it makes sense to help the poorly passenger off the ferry and, as you said, they must have contingency actions for dealing with cars journeying without their owners. Did you happen to find out if he was travelling alone?
Busy, how very stressful getting booked to come back to UK. Its an odd time for the French Air Traffic Controllers to go on strike as they normally do that at the start of the UK summer holidays. We have been caught a few times by that. Your OH had an unlucky start to his weekend too. It was nice that his daughter could drive out to meet him and hopefully he has a safer return journey. There was a report on the Beeb a few days ago where they had a representative from the AA talking about damages to cars caused by potholes in the UK roads. Whenever I go out these days I meet up with at least one set of roadworks.
Ruby, I got some major gardening done but discovered that the roots of my bird cherry are lifting the cobbles on my drive and I have had to take the horrid decision that the tree will have to come down. I removed a length of root some 60cm long by 3cm across getting too close to my house wall for comfort and many suckers coming up too. Luckily one of the quiz team has had a tree surgeon out to deal with some of her trees so I will get his contact information from her. I hate the thought but do not want any damage done to the foundations of my house.
Hazel, I am pleased that you have had plenty to keep you busy and preoccupied after your visit the other day.

I am signing out for today. I feel nicely tired after my digging today and am going to see if there is anything worth watching on TV tonight - I'm not holding my breath! There is always my latest book to read. See you all in the morning. Enjoy your evenings. Bon voyage T'Bird and OH.

At last I've finished painting the stair well and landing.
    Before, I've started the undercoat.
