Good morning folks .Another very hot one. Well done LB coming second is good .Red Maple it so lovely to see a dragon fly close up. When we were on holiday inTintagel(spelling) a large dragon fly flew into our caravan and settled on the back window. It was beautiful . We called the people in the caravan next to ours to come and have a look. They took one look and ran away .Some people are very strange . I thought they would be delighted to see such a beautiful creature close up .Hazel it must have brought back many memories thinking about selling your mums home .Sending you a big hug . That is not an easy job to have to deal with . Rosie i hope you enjoyed your move round.I am having a lazy day . Itβs far too hot to garden .
I've done 1 1/2 hour's gardening, mostly weeding the veg garden, but it's too hot now. Picked more raspberries and runner beans. Ate a fig and a peach but the the figs mostly aren't quite ready. The white peaches are nearly over and the yellow ones aren't quite ready.
I saw a red squirrel in the hazelnut tree a couple of days ago and there was a frog in the parsley last night when I was watering my herb pots.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
I've potted on the last of the foxglove and aquilegia seedlings and put them all in the plastic greenhouse we have as it's in the shade all day. They soon perked up out of the heat. Now to just wait and watch them growπ @Bluejayway, hello and welcome. The dragonfly is about the only thing / insect I don't run away fromππ
Have popped into town for a prescription ( into the new " cupboard")(literally) that is the new chemist and toured a few shops before giving up, shattered with the heat, and headed home. OH has varnished some of the patio set but I've, admittedly, done very little at all today.Β
Good afternoon all. Hazel, I am another one who has been affected by the heat. I have had no energy at all. Having said that, I did get a lot of work done in the garden. I watered everywhere - concentrating on the plants I have recently planted into their permanent positions. I did an Edward Scissorhands on all my hardy geraniums and my green bin is practically full now as is my compost bin. More and more of my cyclamen are in flower and their dainty little blooms look so nice under my Katsura tree. My Heptacodium is flowering and my Kirengeshoma is covered in buds. I think they are enjoying the sun.
Hazel, if I remember correctly, your Spring bulbs were the first to show and be commented on last season. I need to get my daffodils planted soon. Pleased to hear that your Mum is at least settled where she is and won't be shifted about. Fingers crossed that the house sale goes smoothly but I can quite understand the wrench you will feel after regarding it as 'home' for so long. Speaking of potted on plants, my hollyhocks are now ramping away since I dealt with them last weak.
Rosie I got all Lily's bedding in her TV the other day so everything is fresh and clean.
Dragonflies and the smaller damselflies are so beautiful. Before my pond got swamped by the flags, both visited regularly. I loved seeing the flash of electric blue of the damselflies but the dragonflies that visited tended to be a more subdued colour.
Busy, I have been picking wild strawberries and blackberries in my garden every day but they never get as far as the kitchen because I munch them all. I'm a bit like that with my tomatoes too. All my plants are Gardeners Delight and the cherry tomatoes produced are just like sweets. The ones I gave to my neighbour yesterday were part of the glut I seem to have had this season. There is so much satisfaction in eating your own produce. How super to see a red squirrel too. Gorgeous little creatures.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Red Maple Iβve seen a damselfly which are rather beautiful too. Β Hazel yes selling your mums house will hold many memories for mum, you and your brother. Β I hope things go smoothly and she has many familiar things around her. Β Would she like a soft teddy bear of a reasonable size for nighttime. Β She may be quite touched to have one. Β Rosie
I wasn't at youngest's for as long as originally planned as I had a few other errands to run before getting back for golf. Just the 3 hours clearing bindweed then! There wasn't loads on her bit but next door haven't done a stitch since I was last there and a thick mat has encroached over all their plants right up to the border ready to re-invade in the very near future. So I cleared most of theirs again. I'm hoping to go back and do a full day in the next couple of weeks. We can get it looking really ship-shape and get a few more bits planted in the many gaps. The summer bedding that I put in last time is still flowering nicely and the cordyline and salvias are all going great guns. She had a fuschia that looked like it had gone for a burton but it has now recovered nicely. All in all, it was looking quite healthy. It's just the looming bindweed jungle moving in from next door that caught the eye.
Only played half a round of golf tonight but that was enough Slumped in the CA watching Joke-a-vitch now.
