Signing out for this evening. I hope Ante is enjoying having his sister visit him. Never mind about tomorrow Ante! See you all tomorrow. Forgot to say that the tree surgeon called me yesterday and he will call me again tomorrow. Hopefully get that task sorted. I'm not sure if I am needed for the quiz tomorrow either. Enjoy your evenings whatever you have planned.

Hazel - if you were to try to move your rose, bear in mind that it's the small, fibrous feeder roots you need to preserve rather than the big thick anchor roots.ย

It's something that @Marlorena taught me when I was about to root prune my friend's badly potted roses. I'd always assumed it was the big fat roots that were most important but it seems not. Certainly makes moving a rose much easier. Hopefully Marlorena will see this and tell us if I'm talking billhooks. Might be different rules for plants in the ground.

As LB says you should cut the rose hard back before moving it and (if you do it in the next few weeks) you can use the 'prunings' as semi-ripe cuttings as insurance. A quick Google will tell you how to do those.

LB, that's brilliant thanks. I'll have a look at that link ย but I like the idea of being able to cut it right down, and as I've just finished with a compost ย bag ( I'll need to rescue it from the recycling bag!) I can use that to bring it home. Will give it a go anyway. Thanks again.
Topbird, I didn't know that about the roots....all new to me.....will remember that. Will be visiting mum in the next couple of weeks so will try and get it out then. Fingers crossed. It's been in the ground for at least 12-14 years so might be quite a task.
  • Very warm day. ย Debs sorry to hear, hope over time things will improve for all concerned. ย LB hope Lily has found a place near a fan and you for the evenings. ย Hazel quenching my thirst with a second cup. Rosie
  • Morning all, lovely breeze from the fan. ย Enjoy the warm weather as the forecaster said the weather to turn cooler ahead. ย Ordered some ******mas gifts and rather a lot of cat litter 8 boxes , early hours shopping. ย Rosie

Good morning Rosie and all to follow.

Hazel, I'm sorry to hear that your Mum has Covid. Hope she will recover very soon.ย

Yesterday was rather warm day, but night and this morning are perfect. My sister is still with me, and she must go back next Thursday. All my pets are fed and now is my turn. Cup of tea and then must go. Maybe we will go to cottage this afternoon, but it's not for sure.

Wish you all a nice day and see you later.

Good morning Rosie, Ante and all joining later.
Had a real downpour in the night here and it looks like there could be more to come. I haven't had any further news about Jack yet - he is still comfortable in hospital but there hasn't been any confirmation as to whether he will be coming home tomorrow.
Rosie, Lily is quite enjoying being in the draught from the fan.
Ante I will join you and Rosie (?) with a cup of tea - nectar of the Gods!

Morning all. Sun is breaking through again here, heck....we had our thunderstorm last evening, a bit of rumbling but plenty of lightening flashing across the sky. Then the rains came, quite heavily but within half an hour it had passed over. It had become very dark, so much so that all our solar lights came on, as did the street lights. When it had passed and lightened up, all the lights went off again.
Monday morning again ย @Ante1 but it will soon pass. Enjoy the remaining time you have with your sister.
Ive retrieved the compost bag and have written down some notes for myself in readiness for digging up mums rose, read the link thanks, LB, I will give that a go, maybe, depending on the condition of the plant. It's not been pruned fed etc for yonks.ย
Didn't sleep too well last, funny dreams.

ย Noticed on my rounds in the garden this morning, that more grape hyacinths bulbs have popped through in another two pots, we have three shoots come through in the pot of freesias and the Gaura is on a second flowering now. Everything's all topsy ย turvy in the garden.ย
