Good morning everyone. When I got up this morning the house was cold .I turned the heating controls upย
no heat .Checked the boiler, pilot light was out .Reset boiler, pilot light came on went off immediately.Rang engineer hub .The lady said she would send someone. Iam pleased to say the engineer came within an hour . He tinkered with the boiler for a few minutes then came down to look at the thermostat. The batteries were dead . I didnโ€™t even know it had batteries . I thought it was attached to the electrics .Anyway to cut a long story short thatโ€™s all the heating system needed.Heating back on .

I'm glad you got the thermostat sorted before the winter @Rubee.

There was condensation on the inside of our windows too @Songbird-2. OH said it's normal because of the cold outside. Bound to be damp in the bedroom because of our breath when sleeping and kitchens usually have a bit of humidity too because of us and cooking.

The sun has come out. White things are flapping on the the line, I've picked some cherry tomatoes, apples and pears and it's time for some gardening.

Yes, @Songbird-2, if the condensation you see is on the outside, rather than in between the panes of glass, then itโ€™s normal with the newer double glazing. Ours does the same when it drops really cold at night. It clears away during the morning as it warms up, though, so isnโ€™t a problem. If itโ€™s between the panes, then thatโ€™s different as it means the seals have gone.
  • We had condensation on the inside this morning too. Heating came on briefly for the first time this season.
I did change the batteries in the thermostat yesterday!! Glad to hear you got yours sorted @Rubee

Wife was pleased to feel the warmth.
Thermostat is set for 18.5ยฐC, which is 0.5ยฐC higher than last year, because we are both just that little bit slower. Must be an age thing!!

It's on the inside @Bluejayway...not in the inside(within) ย of the window units but the inside of the house! OH says that it is so warm inside compared to outside that, with little or no ventilation overnight, it causes the condensation. It just bothered me because there is a lot more condensation on the new windows than the old. However, we have had the walls insulated and the loft done too so we are rather as snug as a bug in a rug in here๐Ÿคญ๐Ÿ˜‚ No condensation between the glass, that was the problem with our old glass units, they had failed badly but they were old.ย
Gosh Rubee, I'm glad it was nothing serious with your boiler. We've learnt too, that the thermostat ran off batteries when ours failed once. Like you, thought it was attached somehow to the electricity๐Ÿ™„

Our thermostat isn't set at anything permanent. We just turn the boiler on and off when we need to.

One tends to remember @Rubee after an incident like that.ย
I have a note in my "Heating" file, at the very front, on this, and other important things to consider if I find the heating doesn't come on when I really think it ought to.
Sometimes our thermostat stops communicating with the boiler, and I have a way to resolve it, thanks to the gas engineer. It saves having to wait for them to come, and saves face if I find, for instance, the batteries need replacing.ย
If we move house, I'll have to go through the rigmarole again - a new set of quick fixes, for a completely new type of boiler.
    Good luck for the future.

It's been a lovely sunny day. I've weeded the orchard fence bed which has yellow roses and blue flowers with a pink and white bit at one end because I wanted 3 Astronomia roses and I didn't know where else to put them.ย

Now to make apple and blackberry pie and stuff the guinea fowl.
