Afties all. Back home after an exhausting time. However, jobs got done at mum’s which I wanted doing, cleared her bedroom of everything and brother to dispose of that which we couldn't get in the car, it was that full! Brought home lots of trinket boxes, jewellery, pill boxes, paintings, and ornaments for family members who want a momento. Also brought lots of her clothes home to sort out quietly and slowly myself. All felt odd doing this though whilst mum is still alive. I tried to dig up the rose but it was enormous. A lot of it had been covered by other plants and it was really big underneath. Far too big to dig out so I took some cuttings instead and will have a go and doing them. So all in all a good job done and I feel a lot more settled now in myself and quite content with what my brother is doing and how things are progressing. Not so stressed now. Mum was looking nice, in nice clean clothes and after a shower, however, she wouldn't let the carer wash her hair, was quite naughty about it, so I had ' a word' with mum and told her to let them do it. Her confusion has increased ten fold, she thought we were staying in the place where I was born and she also kept asking who all the people where in her house....the things we said ( 🥴) to keep her from getting distressed. She is also now very frail and thin,,poor soul but still good in spirits. Will have a read back in a bit, just having a rest now.
I feel for you @Songbird-2. When I had to clear my Mum’s bungalow I dreaded tackling the wardrobes as she was a charity shop fanatic. I found 32 coats, more than 20 pairs of trousers and then I stopped counting! She also had in excess of 1000 DVDs and uncountable CDs. I still have nightmares about it 😳 although the Sally Army was very grateful!
Hi @Bluejayway and thank you. My parents were big ballroom dancers in their day so you can imagine the number of dresses , skirts and tops she had to keep looking nice and pretty 🙂 I left all her stiletto heels though, as no room for the many tens of pairs she had.
It was the other way round when my Mum died. She didn't have many clothes at all. My parents lived very frugally in their last house. My father didn't earn a lot when I was small but then his business became very successful and we moved to a big period farm house. He eventually gave it to my sister and they downsized. When he died aged 87 my Mum was worried about money. She asked me to go through his bank statements and ring the pension people to find out if she could afford to live. I found that he was a millionaire and she was well provided for. He had given thousands to charity.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Good afternoon all. Welcome @Bluejayway and Hazel - lots of memories stirred up there for me too
Hazel a great though poignant job done there. It reminded me of when handy brother and I had to do similar with Mum's bungalow. The clothes were the toughest of the closely personal things to sort through so I think your bringing of your Mum's clothes home with you where you can take your time over the sorting was an excellent idea. She is such a wonderful age and it is good to hear that despite the confusion she is being looked after well. I trust that your brother is coping OK too. Nice to hear that you feel more settled with the situation now.
Car is wonderful! I will need to do an 'A' level in deciphering the online manual to find out about all its clever stuff. The sales advisor left the massage facility on on the driver's seat and I couldn't turn it off whilst driving. All I can say is I wasn't ready to be massaged and it annoyed me somewhat. I think, however, there will be times when it will be very useful. I have discovered that it has 5 driving modes - including one for driving in slippery conditions and it can parallel park all on its own. Amazing!

Hope the stirring of memories haven't been too awful for you folks. It is hard, isn't it, but it is what it is really. Hard to get the head round but I am making strides in that area so I'm getting there.
Goodness me Busy, that must have been a shock and surprise for your mum! And for you and your siblings too. He must have kept this finances very private but he did so very well for your mum for afterwards.
LB, I will start tomorrow going through mum’s clothes but I did notice quite a few home knits in there so am expecting the exercise to be challenging. Your new car sounds absolutely great, had to laugh imagining driving along whilst getting a massage though😲🤭😂 So pleased you're happy with it although I could hardly believe the time you'd had your other car, I thought it was only a year or so ago. Go carefully until you familiarise yourself with it and take your time....and make sure you read the " instructions"🙂.
I am going to record GW tonight because there is another rugby match on. I am signing out for tonight and I'll see you all in the morning. Enjoy your evenings. Hugs for you Hazel.
