Morning all, i can feel the fresher air getting down to us! No storms overnight though @tui34. Now trying to get it cooler indoors with all the doors and windows open. Have a good day all.
I didn't sleep well. My bedroom was 30° at midnight and outside was 32°. There were storms throughout the night, was woken by thunder. But, hurray, it's a lot cooler this morning. Windows are open.
Son 2's photo album should be delivered today and the chimney sweep is coming this afternoon to sweep the wood burning oven chimney.
It will be a sociable weekend. Son's birthday party with all my children and grandchildren is tomorrow and there is a bring and share lunch after church on Sunday.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Morning all. Yesterday wasn't such a bad day so hopefully more of the same for today. I made a giant pile of disorganised juniper from what had been a monster of semi organised juniper and now I have to figure out how to get rid of it. I'm afraid what's left is a chainsaw job to get back to the mother stump! It stinks of cat pee and I saw Buster (not his real name) spraying t'other day. I've no idea whose he is or where he comes from but he's a very handsome boy and stinky! 🤢 I'll have to think of deterrents because I'm going to be replanting the area and would like to visit it occasionally without gagging. It's also a haven for small birds so they don't need the stress. Rain is forecast for later so I'd best get on... Enjoy your garden.
Glad it’s getting a bit cooler for you @Busy-Lizzie and the rest of you sweltering sur le continent.
I’ve been out picking yet more tomatoes and courgettes … and although we have virtually no beans as I just didn’t have the time to do things properly, we do have these ..,
Self-seeded and left totally to themselves … these are just some of them … the beanpoles are seven footers so … 🤪

Congratulations to your grandson @AnnaB! Top grades in all his subjects - that's amazing! Sounds like quite a job on your hands there @plant pauper. Have fun with the family @Busy-Lizzie - and hopefully you'll start to get more comfortable nights now. Great sunflowers @Dovefromabove - and hope you are reassured by the text from Rob. Very nice evening with daughter and family for my oldest g'daughter's 18th. She loves the new laptop her parents got her. I'm afraid I was more old school - 6 classic novels as she is thinking, after doing her resits, of doing an English degree. She should enjoy them - The Great Gatsby, The Picture of Dorian Grey, 1984, Wuthering Heights... But she also got the exact brand of trainers she wanted and a few other things. Younger g'daughter got the GCSE results she wanted for her A level course, so she was happy too.
Lovely news about kids and their good results. Today is cooler and overcast, the thunderstorms did not happen. Maybe tonite. I bought two Yorkshire terracotta pots in Suffolk (they saw me coming 😆), I bought some sealer yesterday so when dry I will paint them.
I’ve had a productive morning … there’s two loads on the line and another churning away in the machine. Lots of tomatoes and courgettes picked and a huge batch of courgette, pea and mint soup made. I was going to make a courgette and raisin cake but will probably wait until son is back on Tuesday to help us eat it. I’ve also prepped new potatoes for supper and made a dish of cauliflower in a bechamel and that’ll just pop in the oven to warm through … we’re having panfried lamb’s liver and onions this evening. We love it but don’t have it often at the moment as son isn’t an offal fan … I blame the parents 🤣
OH has cleaned the kitchen windows bless him … he said he couldn’t see out when doing the washing up 😂 I’m not allowed to clean them ever since I strained my back reaching to clean a window the day before @WonkyWomble’swedding

Afternoon all, remaining dry and fairly sunny although clouding over a bit now. Enjoyed a short walk with OH this morning and didn't get dizzy coming back on my own which is a distinct improvement. I dug over the big trough on the terrace and then dug out the remains of the leaf bin, which unfortunately had been invaded by long roots from something, probably the big tree outside our boundary. We've tried everything to stop these b.....y roots, all to no avail. I put the sieved leaf mould on the trough for the rain to wash it all in and will sink the nerine pots in later.
You have been busy @Dovefromabove, I bet your kitchen smells delicious with all that cooking. I cooked down some apple fallers last night and made two small apple crumbles which we enjoyed with a teaspoon of clotted cream.
Good exam results all round. My g'son won't get his result until they get back home in a week's time. He took Statistics a year early so fingers crossed.
Have a lovely (if hectic!) time with your family tomorrow @Busy-Lizzie.
Enjoy the Bank Holiday weekend everybody, whatever you're doing, especially @AuntyRach who's having a well deserved long break.
