And now August has arrived … schools are closed, the grain harvest is in full swing and seaside towns and villages are packed to the gunnels; while gardeners are thinking about planting up pots of bulbs for spring … at least this one is …
And now we have another thread for saying hello to friends old and new, sharing news about our days, the big stuff as well as the not so big … giving a shoulder to cry on through the tough bits; rejoicing in shared triumphs large and small; and nattering to each other over a cuppa about the bits and bobs of life … so find a comfy chair, the kettle’s full, the biscuit tin is well stocked, there may even be cake later on …

You too @punkdoc, I hope that once your new hip settles down and recovers properly you will once again be able to get back into having a full night's sleep, so necessary for one's good health.
For me, not being able to get a full night's sleep has become the norm since getting covid Xmas '20. I can only sleep for two or three hours at a time before I'm awake again and have to take a break of another two or three hours before feeling ready to sleep again. The strange thing is that when I am asleep for those couple of hours or so then I am really asleep, instantly dead to the world, never alter my sleeping position, and if I do it in the day, which I sometimes do, folk can come and go, move things, have conversations, even start heavy machinery outside my window, no problem, I'm asleep! When I wake I'm awake - like a switch on or switch off - no halfway measures no yawns or stretches, I'm just wide awake. Would make an interesting candidate for those sleep studies perhaps?
Anyway you lovely forker folk who put up with my many rambling posts on here, my best wishes for August, may the force be with you, shine on you and give you many happy days.
No need to worry @AnnaB … I’d had a weird dream so it helped get it out of my head to just noodle on here for a few minutes. I’d already saved the post as a draft so it didn’t take a moment to post it. I was sound asleep a few minutes later. 😊
Thanks @punkdoc … I’m sure that as soon as you’re able to assume your usual sleeping position you’ll be sleeping soundly again. That’s certainly the experience of everyone I know who’s had the hip op.

Don't worry @punkdoc there's a full (super) moon at the moment - I too, had a rough night waking at 1.26am - hot and another mozzie to keep me company. 2 or 3 hours for me too @AnnaB - I listen to podcasts but last night to no avail. The hip pain wakes me as I probably am wanting to turn over and lifting the pelvic basin is torture! I drifted in an out until 7am.
It's windy today and coolish with lots of cumulus stratus around.
Onto second cuppa,- feeling quite tired.
Yes, @Dovefromabove August is the month for hard toil and preparation for winter. So goes a saying: En août, ni femmes, ni mout! Total abstinence!

Yes, I second @Hostafan1. July was a wash out - here’s hoping August will improve, though looking out of the window right now, I’m not so sure.
I hope you can soon have a good nights, undisturbed sleep @puncdoc, and anyone else suffering sleepless nights. If you’re still having to sleep on your back, it must be very difficult for you and I hope once you are able to sleep in your usual sleeping position, you’ll be back to good nights sleep 🤞.

It must be because I don't like autumn much with then the prospect of winter whereas spring is always full of promise with summer awaiting. I have made a conscious effort to have more late summer flowers and autumn/winter flowering shrubs in the garden which certainly helps my mood.
Interesting comments on sleep patterns. I believe it is common for sleep patterns to change as people get older, you don't tend to need so much as not so active perhaps.
I find sleeping on my back much more comfortable, especially with a small pillow under my knees. Started to sleep that way last year when I was in such discomfort with my right shoulder and couldn't get comfortable. I was taught many years ago in a yoga class that it is the classic relaxation position and to consciously relax each part of your body in turn, starting with your toes and working your way up - does it for me! I am finding I wake up quite suddenly between 3 and 4 am in the morning, especially in the summer when dawn is earlier, despite having blackout blinds and curtains. I usually get up and have a cup of tea and read for a while before going back to bed. Never turn on phone or laptop though, not good for sleep inducing and I don't have them in the bedroom.
So far the morphine patch hasn't had any effect, except to give me a headache, not sure how long it takes before the pain relief kicks in but hope it's soon. Getting down the stairs is not too bad, getting up is agony. Good job we've only got 3!
It's sunshiny at the moment but I can see light grey clouds forming. Forecast is for dry weather which is good as OH desperately wants to cut the front lawn before it gets any higher!
