Thanks everyone for your good wishes for our wedding anniversary day out. I certainly hope this rain stops by then but from the forecast, it's not looking good. Think we'll still go though, we have very happy memories from that place.
OH has just read that many more chemists are closing down. What is it with all these chemists closing down all of a sudden? I asked at our place why they were shutting as I couldn't imagine it was to do with footfall etc. She said she didn't know. We put it down to maybe the rents on the shops are too much now?
It is still raining but I had to get into the garage as some double hollyhock plugs I bought the other week arrived today and I wanted to get them all into pots. It is not very warm out there either.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
I am signing out for today. Watching cricket later. See you all in the morning. Enjoy whatever you are doing this evening. I do hope that this awful weather isn't spoiling Debs' week.

Got the garage done just before a short but very sharp shower and I've also rescued about 20 verbena bonariensis seedlings from the shingle driveway. Some of the seedlings are well over 6" tall but they all have very stunted roots because of the hard core under the shingle. I've cut them back and potted them up so the roots can develop a bit ready for planting out early autumn.
Hazel - I really like Durham. I think the cathedral might be my favourite and plenty of nice places to eat and drink. Have a super day tomorrow🙂
A friend of the family is a recently retired pharmacist. Took early retirement because he could afford to and he'd become totally disillusioned with the whole business. Fed up with being expected to take on more and more roles previously undertaken by GPs and other health centre medics, fed up with abuse from customers due to medication shortages, fed up with people abusing the whole NHS system and fed up with measures which needed to be taken to protect himself and stock from drug addicts. He seems to be much happier now.
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Thanks Topbird, going on Friday. The Cathedral is wonderful, we've been many times. I can understand the reason for the early retirement taken by your friend if that's what he's had too put up with. That will probably be how Debs is feeling too. SIL popped round today to drop off a present and we were reminiscing about Durham as they both went to Uni there too. Don't normally "look back" but today was nice.
Morning everyone. Very early. Topbird yes it’s extra responsibility for the already busy pharmacists. I hope he enjoys his retirement. I do like verbena and L’Occitane have a verbena shower gel which I tried sometime ago. Hope your seedlings continue to thrive. LB I used to live in West Sussex on the coast and we loved it, lots of walks to favourite pubs, one especially in Tarring, a free house and in the summer they had slippery pole competitions and it was hilarious and smooth jazz on Sunday evenings. We had an apartment which was very habitat at the time which was owned by Tim and we’d walk to his house which had lots of macrame pots in the kitchen and a lovely tapestry fire guard in the sitting room. Hazel I’ve never been to Durham but sounds an interesting place to visit. Rosie
Looks quite bright outside. Might be able to sneak a couple of hours in the garden before the deluge starts again.
Other than the weeds, one of the main plants thriving is a salvia 'hotlips'. I've got a few cuttings on the go but will take a few more - they seem to root quite readily in water.
Good morning Rosie and Biglad. It is looking settled outside - i.e. not raining! I am going to pay a quickish visit to Bestie as I am on a First Aid course this afternoon - including being taught how to use a defibrillator. Bestie is on Grandma duty with Sofia today so I hope I get chance for a little 'play' before attending the course.
Well done on getting your jobs done T'Bird - it would have been an impossibilty here. I think that your friend did the right thing. I just cannot understand why some people are so obnoxious towards people who are there to help them. I do sympathise with worries about shortage of medication but it is not the fault of pharmacists.
Rosie, I have only been to Brighton once as one of my college friends lives there. You seem to have enjoyed your time.

My niece, her OH and 2 children are coming to lunch today. They are here, renting a gite, on holiday. I was hoping for fine weather so we could eat outside but showers are forecast.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
