Daughter 1 and I went to the SM yesterday morning for more food as D 2 and her children were coming for lunch. We had riast chickens and roast spuds and veg then ice creams.
I was a bit worried as it was quite cloudy and the dining room here isn't big enough to open my table up for 11 people. Then there was a heavy shower so we moved the cars out of the open sided barn, the children swept the concrete floor and put 2 garden tables and chairs in there. Granddaughter washed all the chairs.
The weather cleared up in the afternoon so the families went back to the lake with the sandy beach. After a rest we joined them but we watched them from the café. OH finds it hard to get up from the sand.
Going to read back now.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Dull, overcast and a little rain this morning here. But nothing to stop me working outside! The calendula flowers are shining brightly. Such a cheery lot in the dullness.
Busy it does sound as though you had a lovely family day yesterday - despite the little niggles about seating and whether you had enough to eat. When I was a lot younger I think I would have been quite excited about eating out in the barn.Heck, what am I saying, I would still be excited now!
@rowlandscastl444 its a similar weather situation here but fingers crossed for later. I know what you mean about calendulas - like little blobs of sunshine!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Good morning everyone .Hazel you know that your mum has someone there 24/7 to keep an eye on her .That must be a relief for you .It’s a very difficult thing to have to do but you know your mum will be looked after .My thoughts are with you .Busy you must have had a lovely time with your family .Sounds great fun .LB I hope you get some time in your garden . I can’t wait to be in the garden after the rain .
A few of my wet cloth things (silly me) are getting an extra rinse. I'm glad I hadn't got it all out though and I will not be dashing to bring these things in. Gardening has gone on hold - yet again.

Good afternoon, still dry at the moment, that’s nearly 2 days now 😅. I’ve managed to do a bit of tidying and deadheading in the garden, but the grass will wait as it’s still very wet. @Songbird-2, be kind to yourself. I know it doesn’t make it easier emotionally, but nevertheless, you have have done what you’ve had to do for the best 💐. Well, I’d better nip out to the postbox whilst it’s still dry.
Hi all. Had a very welcome visit from 23 and son this morning. My, they helped so much to lift both OH and I out of our melancholy mood with plenty of laughs and madness. What a joy it was. Just what we needed. Thank you @Red maple for your kind words. Yes, I know it's for the best but I have a first sight of mum in the lounge of the home, stuck in my mind and I need to get rid of it as it was upsetting for me. I also discovered the home isn't just for residents with no health issues but with advanced stages of dementia and Alzheimer's disease which I think Mum will find hard to communicate with. I just don't want her going downhill in herself as she was always so cheery. Time will tell. I have tried to do some gardening this afternoon but the heavens opened and it threw it down, so had to abandon all work and retire inside.
It's been mainly dry here - just a couple of short sharp showers - so had about 3 hrs in the garden this morning. Mainly cutting back huge clumps of feverfew, alchemilla mollis and salvia nemerosa. All plants which look lovely and fresh and give energy to the borders when they first open and for several weeks after, but they're all plants which definitely do not fade gracefully. Also took the opportunity to edge the grass and turn the soil in a couple of borders so it all looks much tidier now. The soil is beautifully soft and crumbly - lovely to work.
Supposed to be doing Latin revision this pm but I've been a*$ing about instead making Indonesian pork for dinner, doing number puzzles and watching A Touch of Frost. Now I'm entering the worm hole which is the internet.
Anything but learning what I need to know. I was the same at school....🙄
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Evening all. Well big smug face here. I actually managed a Lily's TV cycle today and between showers I got the wet cloth things dry. I got a new clemmie delivered today called Aromatica. Its a beauty and as its a sprawler not a climber I am going to let it romp over some hydrangeas in my garden. I was hoping to get it in place today but rain stopped play.
Hazel, there is nothing quite like a small person to raise spirits. Some of the best medicine ever.
Well done Red maple on getting some tidying up done. My deadheading is waiting for me!
T'Bird, I think your choices of displacement activities are far more interesting than Latin revision. Love a Touch of Frost. David Jason is brilliant in that.

Don't think I dropped in here yesterday.

I wonder if it rained on @Ante1's crops. It rained here in the night.
D2 and family are going today.
