Love your style Debs! Hope work goes peacefully today for you.
@Biglad, you are right. My Bestie uses Vodafone (other service providers available) for her internet and gets a discount because they provide her mobile too. I want a much faster broadband then she has though so I persist with VM despite the hassle.
Been down the garden to put some stuff in my compost bin and everywhere is soaking wet. Both waterbutts are overflowing and the paths are slippery. I've retired indoors to see if there is anything interesting on TV.
Ah Challenge Cup semi final - wrong code for me but its better than the usual dross on TV.
p.s. meant to say Ruby that I won't be going back to 'sco today but will leave things until after the weekend. Think I might be forced into looking at plants online again!
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Good afternoon, we’ve had heavy rain for most of the morning, so plans to sort out the front hedge have been thwarted again. It seems to have stopped for now, but I don’t expect it to remain so. Your recipe for the orange cake sounds delicious @Busy-Lizzie. I’ve got some ripe bananas to use and have found a recipe on the BHF website to try - no added fat in it, so hope it won’t be too dry. I think this afternoon will consist of reading my book and catching up with last nights GW programme, and making the banana loaf, but first, a sandwich. I hope you all have a pleasant afternoon.
Sorry to hear you're not feeling so good Rosie - hope you feel better soon.
Ante - glad to hear you and yours are safe and sound. Saw a clip from Italy on the news last night and the storms looked very severe.
BL - enjoy the weekend with the family - glad your garden has been looked after while you were in Norfolk. I could do with someone to do that for me...Cake sounds delicious - I've made a similar one with tangerines.
We have some gentle beautiful rain today - just enough to keep the garden watered. It's cold though. Had to change into longs, socks and a fleece. However, I much prefer the cooler weather to heat so I'm not complaining.
Spending the day revising Latin grammar as I'm away to do a summer school in a couple of weeks. The course will be way beyond my capabilities but I am desperate to give my brain cells a good workout. I am reminded why I gave up Latin at the first opportunity at school though - it's hard!!
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Hi @Topbirdi have o level Latin but never meet any ancient romans so don’t get chance to use it. I only remember bits anyway. Good luck!
Work not too bad things are definitely improving. A huge bumble bee came in clearly exhausted but I gave him some sugar syrup and he flew off happily. We had heavy rain most of the day but dry now. If this continues I may move Graham into the greenhouse, warm and dry and space to explore. Just until it dries up a bit and gets more summery.
Afternoon all. I hope that you got your banana cake made @Red maple. It has persisted down here virtually all day so garden is well watered - again!
Rosie, I do hope that your migraine has eased off now. There is little worse than a chronic headache.
Like you, @Topbird, I have felt decidedly chilly these last few days and the long socks and fleece sound very familiar to me. I, too, gave up Latin at school for similar reasons to yours. Since 'growing up' and loving the derivations of words used in English I just wish I had had a better teacher who had encouraged me more. I still remember nominative, vocative, dative and ablative - only the words, as I have not a scooby about their meanings. i also remember chanting amo; amas; amat and mensa; mensarum; mensis and declensions. Excuse me whilst I go into a dark room and put a wet cloth on my head!

I missed you there Debs. Hey its great news about work and well done for rescuing the bumblebee. I had to rescue a tortoiseshell butterfly from Jack's conservatory yesterday. I do hate it when lovely things like bees and butterflies get stuck in places - hence my humane bug catcher gets well used at this time of year. I'm sure that Graham will be quite grumpy with all this wet weather.
I am signing out for tonight so enjoy your evenings and I'll see you in the morning.

My fridge was full when the family arrived, nearly empty already. I made a loaf and heated up a baguette from the freezer. Daughter said it wasn't enough for lunch so we went to the baker and bought 2 more baguettes and a large grainy loaf. It's all gone. 3 teenage boys eat an enormous amount. I have 8 croissants and 8 pain au chocolats and a pain de mie (ordinary soft white loaf) for breakfast, I hope it's enough. When I gave a dinner party 6 chicken thighs in a wine and mushroom sauce were enough for 6 of us. I did 12 chicken thighs for 7 of us tonight and it's all gone, along with a big pan full of potatoes and bowls of courgettes and beans. Nearly all the coconut and strawberry gateau and the orange and almond cake have gone too.
We went to a lake and the boys swam and went on canoes. OH and I sat in a lakeside café and had coffee and read our books. It has been a warm day, about 27C.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
T'bird, I'm sure you will be smashing at summer school. Ah Latin, I like it, but sometime it can be tiring. Quite monotonous language.
Lovely sunny and fresh morning. We are not used to have only 17℃ at high summer, but I gladly accept it. I was at cottage yesterday and finished some preparations for sowing new veggies. Today is whole day for relaxing.
Hope you are all well and wish you a very nice Sunday.
