At 6.30am when I got up it was 24.5°C already!! Soooo humid and muggy.
I did my little toe too @WonkyWomble - a few months ago and - oh the pain!!! I strapped it to its next door neighbour but half my foot was black and blue!! Even if you get it seen to, and if it is broken, there's nothing to be done except strap it. I hope you can get your shoe or sandal on - that's the fun part! It takes ages to get better!! Sorry!
Struggling to sleep? @punkdoc I don't blame you. A couple more days and it will all be over. Good news for the mammogram @coccinella - not very nice - but all in the name of maintenance. We have a mammobile that comes around which saves going into town - parking etc. Speaking of maintenance - Brad is looking hot for 59! Hope your arms are better @Busy-Lizzie - a good dose of Betadine will keep them clean.
Today's expression: Pour Saint Benoit, le coucou chante aux bons endroits. Si pour Notre-Dame il n'a pas chanté, il est tué ou bâillonné! (Notre Dame - Assumption, is 15th August).
Cherish the rain wherever you are. Hosepipe ban here. Enjoy today.
I am sorry about your toe @WonkyWomble. Go to see a doctor and have an xray done, what a nuisance at this time of year when you are busy. When you are better you can come to Lux too 😉.
Aw @punkdoc it is normal to be afraid before an op. I presume it is more difficult for you mentally as you know all the bits but you also know how dedicated surgeons are about keeping you alive and well. Last year just before the anesthetist opened the valves to the sleeping drug he asked if I had a good night's sleep. I said of course not, but did you and your squad here? So they laughed and here I am. It will be fine.
Hope you get sorted with the neighbourhood app @Lizzie27 and hope @Busy-Lizzie gets a good haircut (and end of painful arms!)
Going to be a scorcher here too @tui34. We all seem to have had an accident with feet. Years ago OH was knocked off by someone in Oxford Street and fell with his pointy elbow on my foot. We had to cut our visit short and he had surgery (tendon detached from the bone, poor lad) while I was in pain for a month but the foot had to heal by itself. Elbow and foot are both ok now, but I hate Oxford street with a passion.
have a nice day all and watch out those temperatures! 🥵
Well, the phenomenon that is my son left for work ten minutes ago. My only job was to cream his grafts and put the pressure sleeves on … and help him with his socks and shoelaces. The rest he can do himself. He could do his shoelaces himself really, but not quite as tightly as I can.
Poor Wonky 🤗 I’m beginning to feel as if my parenting kit should contain bubble wrap and Araldite 🙄 😂
Hugs to @punkdoc … you’ll be fine … you just know too much … but you will be fine. 🤗
Now my second coffee has arrived I’ll have a look at Wordle …

I hope the pain in your toe is easing off @WonkyWomble. I stubbed my left middle toe on a chair leg a few years ago. Toe is fine now but the nail bed was damaged. I now have a thick deformed toe nail.
Having uncovered a section of the fence when pruning yesterday I saw that it is in a bad way, rotting wood falling off. OH ordered some similar planks from Wickes so we'll fetch them and repair the fence. Sainsbugs is nearby so I'll do some shopping, more friends coming to dinner tomorrow evening.
My scratches are fine this morning, dry and not sore. The one where a thorn went in which was red and sore last night just looks like a mozzie bite this morning. Having had 5 Albertines at my old house in France I swore I would never buy another, but this one was already here.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
So sorry to read about so many of you having health or accident problems right now. @WonkyWomble I always wonder why we have toes on our feet, they are not really any use and cause many problems it seems. Much more useful to have something like a webbed foot I would think. Take care and look after yourself. @punkdoc try not to worry I'm sure you will be absolutely fine. When I was stupid enough to have a fall and split my femur early on the Sunday morning before Xmas '20 I was told they were really busy doing operations that day and so it would be Monday. Monday came and went - really busy they said, but all was ok for Tuesday. it got me really worried as I was sure that maybe they would be busy/rushed etc over the pin and repair necessary (all in the middle of covid problems), but no, they did a brilliant job and apart from being extremely hungry - no food for two days just in case they could 'fit me in', I have no complaints. However it was a week later on Boxing Day that they told the ward that sadly we had all caught covid, which seems to have affected me adversely ever since. But as I said I'm sure that you will be fine - they will have us lot to deal with if not! Special hugs for @Lizzie27 I really hope that you will be feeling better soon and that you can get the help that you need.
Morning all, I think there was some rain in the night but dry now. I need to do some Acer pruning, but there lots of weeds on the plots. Decisions decisions. @AnnaB ha ha, remember we evolved without shoes. Toes are vital for balance and grip. People who have lost toes for whatever reason have a lot of problems even with special shoes.
Morning all, thanks for your good wishes @AnnaB. I think it was you who enquired about the 12th C church we visited near Battle? It was in a little village called Mountfield near the Gypsum quarry. Really pretty and very peaceful but quite a way from the actual hamlet.
We have a friend coming over for coffee soon and OH is collecting cakes from the bakery. He had to help dry me off after my shower and put my socks on for me too. I do admire your son @Dovefromabove for being determined to go to work, there's many that wouldn't. I've emailed somebody about gardening help and my chap is coming to erect a handrail up the back garden steps either Thursday or next week - bless him. This has been a very salutary lesson to take steps to future proof your home and garden before you need it so think about it soon folks.
It will all be over soon @punkdoc, just hang on to that thought. I'm terrified of having an MRI scan, being claustrophobic, but if I have to I'm sure they'll sedate me first.
Morning all - popping in after a weekend awol from the forum. Lovely views @Hostafan1, happy birthday to Mr. @Pat E, ouch for the mammogram @coccinella and ouch for the toe @WonkyWomble. And hoping the op. goes well @punkdoc. You will have something nice from @tui34 to look forward to when you can drink again -
O, for a draught of vintage! that hath been
Cool'd a long age in the deep-delved earth,
Tasting of Flora and the country green,
Dance, and Provençal song, and sunburnt mirth!
O for a beaker full of the warm South,
Full of the true, the blushful Hippocrene,
With beaded bubbles winking at the brim,
And purple-stained mouth;
Wish we had had a woodpecker to hoover up our ants! They were flying against the living room window and I said we should close it before they came inside. Too late. The X-ant recommended by @Dovefromabove was a bit too ant-friendly. They just shrugged it off.
Managed to get some gardening done but not enough in this weekend's humidity. I had a couple of large pots by the front door that were frost damaged. Emptied one completely and stuck a large plastic pot into it as the shape is still nice - despite the big hole in the side. The other seemed OK, so I just emptied the top, found the tulip bulbs, put them back in and was just lifting it to move it when I saw that its bottom was clean off! So - out with the bulbs again, completely emptied (all waste going to earthing up the spuds, so trips back and forth to the veg plot) and another large plastic pot inserted. Both planted up and, despite feeling exhausted by the heat, went to tackle another large plot. Only to find it full of ants, eggs and all sorts. By this time the ants were beginning to take to the wing and I retreated indoors.
You must have very different ants to ours up here @didyw … the ants here were a real problem for some years, living under the front doorstep and coming into the hallway and sittingroom crawling under the skirting board and trying to nest in a bookcase … they hardly even gone onto the doorstep now I treat it with ExAnts at the first sign of activity.
And, now that the courgettes are producing, it’s minestrone time of year … soup for lunch anyone?
