Ante, I found several recipes for sage syrup online but none of the end pictures show that beautiful pink colour. They all seem to be an olive green. Do you use purple sage leaves?
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Morning all. Tired this morning, for some reason, struggling to get going...but get going I must as I need to tidy the garden up ( after the daily flick around from the birds) and do some redesigning of certain areas. It's still windy( we've noticed that, for the past week, it's windy throughout the day and come evening, it's as if it's blown itself out and it's quite calm) but warm so will risk it. Hope those in work have an easy day. Busy, my OH was just saying the other day that we really must get cracking on painting the hall, stairs etc very soon😬😬😬 Gawd......I need some energy. Ante, your " pink gin" ( as I shall call it😂) looks nice, bit sweet for me but my OH would love it. Got to go and charge iPad up again, losing its battery quickly these days. Have a nice day everyone.
I’ve been pottering but didn’t get any sleep last night so resting on the bed for a while. Lovely and sunny here. Ante the syrup sounds lovely. Hazel you’ll need a burst of energy to tackle the painting. LB another rose for you, hope it’s a healthy one, a refresh with water. Rosie
I came home few minutes ago. It's still raining, and it's most welcome. Thank you all for lovely comments about "pink gin" (Hazel you are not far from the truth, because one bottle is from gin 😂). I love recycle and reuse glass bottles. Wild sage here has deep purple flowers and grey leaves. When you gather flowers your hands are all sticky and covered with nectar. Recipe is extremely simple, the hardest job is to collect flowers on the hills sides. You can count on meet some snakes for sure.
Original recipe is 300g sage flowers, 3l water, 5 lemons or 50g lemon acid and 2,5kg sugar. In my version I reduce sugar on 2kg, but next time it will be 1,5kg. First you need to boil water and lemons cut on half (or lemon acid), turn off the stove and put in sage flowers. Leave it 24h and filter thru fine cheesecloth. Water will have lovely colour, then add sugar and boil again. Hot syrup pour in glass bottles and cork it. It is immediately ready for use.
Sorry for the long post, I tried to short it. Now is time for nibble something.
It does look beautiful @Ante1, I'm afraid I wouldn't be gathering any sage though as I am terrified of snakes. Can't really bear to type the word.
I've been to Ashwoods today with Bestie and enjoyed sitting in the sunshine eating cranberry and blackberry scones with clotted cream and jam. I bought a few plants too. Thalictrum Black Stockings, Phlox White Admiral, Hosta fire and Ice and Dahlia Dreamy Nights. Typing with this wrist splint is difficult so I suspect my posts will be fairly short at the momen. Hope everyone is well.
Good afternoon all. Thank you so much Ante for the recipe. I thought it was the leaves that you used but it makes sense about the pink colour when mentioned that you used the flowers. The recipes I looked at only mentioned using leaves. I've pottered about in the garden but after my 'crack of dawn' start to the day, my energy seemed to disappear this afternoon and I retired early. I have no quizzes to look forward to tonight so I might read instead but at least there is Springwatch.
Cacoethes: An irresistible urge to do something inadvisable
Good afternoon everyone, just relaxing with a coffee now after a day in the garden potting up petunias and begonias and tidying up one of the front borders. That’s it for today, might just admire the fruits of my labours after my coffee 😁. The sage syrup sounds very tasty, @Ante1. Sadly, I don’t have enough sage flowers to make any but yours looks very nice.
It sounds ladies that you all had very busy and lovely day.
Yvie, you shouldn't worry about snakes. If some poisonous snake bite you, you still have two, maybe two and a half hour to get antidote. It's not problem at all. 😁
Red Maple, lucky you, my petunias are all decimated by slugs. I'll probably buy some more next weekend.
LB, you deserve rest after early start today. Take it easy.
Yvie, my Bestie is exactly the same as you. She cannot even say the word 'snake'. When we were playing snakes and ladders with her granddaughter last Thursday we had to say we were playing worms and ladders!

We haven't seen T'Bird for a while. I hope all is fine with her and her OH. I am signing out for this evening so I will wish you all pleasant evenings and see you in the morning.

Oh dear Hazel, painting again.
