@bullfinch - that was a picture I found online 😂 I hope mine looks that good though.
@pitter-patter - it looks really nice in your garden. Shame about the flowering period as they are generally rebound for very long flowering periods. How short are we talking? I have some penstemon that flower for 5 months.
Names I think are very important and they are not going to appeal to everyone - trying to put it nicely..
Slugs, snails and aphids pose few problems for me.. the weather on the other hand ... ..most of 'Eustacia Vye' has been decapitated by the storm the other day, which included hail.. I've had to prune it, so most of the first flush is lost.. ..yet this French Tea rose took no notice of it.. ..interesting sepals on 'Directeur Constantin Bernard' [ex-Loubert].. ..I thought the Dahlias would rot in the flash flood but they seem ok.. ..at least the Chives are nice..
We went to the weekly market in our local French town this morning. I was looking for a few perennials and the man had some roses too. There was "The Pilgrim" for 20€ so I had to buy it. Now I will have to find it a home as the yellow rose bit of my border is full!
I had a climbing The Pilgrim in a pot at my old house but I gave it to my daughter when I moved house. She planted it in the ground and it's doing well. The market man told me that the one I've bought is a shrub.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
Hello everyone. I'm a long-time lurker but have only just joined the forum.
I decided I would wait to sign up until I had a rose flower opening. I didn't expect to have to hang around so long. Last year my first was Rhapsody in Blue on the 29th April. This year the roses are running two weeks later here in the West Midlands. Clementina Carbonieri has won the race to flower first. She has a nice tea scent with a hint of fruit.
Don't grow up - grow sideways.
Gardening in the West Midlands on a mix of neutral loamy sand & Victorian building rubble.
We have just exchanged and the seller kindly gave us permission to measure the garden for a dog fence. Walked round and was delighted to see this rose on an arch. Smells absolutely beautiful. Took my breath away as wasn’t expecting it.
There’s some honeysuckle on there too. An apple tree with a clematis montana running through it and I think a rose too and some more roses, a couple very old. So excited.
@Alfie_ it really is a shame, as it’s such a beautiful variety. They only flower once in my garden, so for about a month I would say. I do have other penstemons that flower for much longer.

And hello, Roses people! I'm new to GW. No blooms on my roses for probably another three weeks! But I looks forward to sharing when the time comes.
