I loved all the pictures of DA's garden, @agnasia. Is your daughter demanding a pet peacock now? You won't regret getting PAoK. And now Bring Me Sunshine is nailed down for next bareroot season for me after seeing your picture (it helps that thanks to this thread I am expecting yellow and not apricot, of course). Bring Me Sunshine and probably that Desdemona since the propaganda on here is so unremitting.🙄
@WAMS yes she is, she wanted to know how they got it!! She’s never seen one before. I’m glad the picture helped and you won’t regret getting Desdemona either!
@agnasia Thanks for sharing the photos taken at the DA garden. And that of the 🦚 too. @ElbFee you have such nice roses. As usual, @pitter-patter's garden is drool worthy. @Tack your new additions are superb. Please share how they smell and perform.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
@Marlorena your Marie Nabonnard is stunning! And what a beautiful Zephirine you had. I was torn between Katleen Harrop and Zephirine Drouhin and at last I took ZD. It’s in its second year and as you say, I too didn’t notice any particular disease, no black spot and no mildew here. i’d like o to grow a little faster, but I knew she a slow rose amd I will patiently wait for it to climv on the arch.
On the other hand, I see that everybody’s Lady of Shallot is blooming profusely while mine is not. Would you say that I need to move in a sunnier place?
@WAMS I don’t spray and in fact I have loads of pests this year. But I can’t risk damaging all the wild life around here and then my philosophy is to be content with what can survive and thrive. My most resistant roses here are Mary Delany and Desprez a fleur Jaunes.
@dabolem ..thank you... 'MN' is a truly great rose, especially for warmer climates.. I prefer 'KH' to 'ZD' for two reasons.. I like the colour better, lighter pink, and surprisingly, I am finding the scent stronger on 'KH'.. I never did get that much from 'ZD', as everyone else seemed to get.. I had that plant for 6 or 7 years, they do take their time to develop, and it can be 5 years before you start to see the best from them.. I've had both before in different gardens.. 'KH' has always seemed a little less vigorous too..
I have 'Lady of Shalott' in almost full sun, I wouldn't be afraid to place it in a shadier spot, but it's such a hot colour that I think she demands a fiery border.. I should also add, as you are in Italy, she turns pink in very hot weather, which can scupper otherwise pleasing associations with other plants, where pink was not the intention..

@Marlorena all the rest were only in bud, must have been that particular spot. The kids were more interested in the peacock than the roses!!
How big do standards get in terms of the size of the top growth? The pictures of Golden Celebration on the DA website are huge:

My Harlow Carr is about 5 years old this year, so it’s considerably larger.
