@agnasia, the only climber I've got on your list is Claire Austin, grown on the side of my arbour. I rather like it, a pale creamy white with lemon in the centre, incurved blooms and lots of them. They grow on thin, long bendy canes which droop with the weight of the flowers sometimes so ideal for your pergola. I like the fresh fragrance as well.

@newbie77 sorry to hear that and I completely get that problem. I had to neglect the garden for much of last year, even with the extreme weather most things survived. Just make sure you get that time for you.

@Lizzie27 thank you, sounds like Claire Austin ticks all the boxes, so a definite contender.

@cooldoc I’ll have a look through Tack’s posts, I do remember Strawberry Hill being mentioned. Another contender I think.  It doesn’t have to get that big in a year but a faster rather slower grower would be good.

I’d love some of your ladybirds @Alfie_ !  I have ordered some online before, thought they would love the garden as there are so many aphids, but they all disappeared on me.  I am trying out the tea theory and I’ve done my first mulch around GG.

@Alfie_your rose growth is massive compared to mine🤭🙂Maybe mine will be like that in a few more months then🤞
Ive been moving my rose all over the garden, I think Im getting obsessed with it. It's ended up back in position  one🫣

Eustacia does have a very shrubby habit which makes it ideal for a pot.. Elizabeth looks similar to EV in its habit/ leaf.. these two Austins are miles ahead of others in terms of leafy growth..

Hi @Nollie! Thanks for your reply. I’ll do as you say and wait and see, so far the roses are doing well but I guess that’s because the tree is new too. It’s a small ornamental I think it’s meant to grow to 2-3m.

What did you use as a root barrier?
