There are so many posts of beautiful roses and ideas. I am behind by 40 pages and already am thinking if I can squeeze a couple more roses into the garden.
@Eustace how do you find out the parentage of the DA roses?
Here are a couple of roses from my garden, I was inspired by @newbie77 to start cutting a few for inside
Lochinvar young bloom... and a key for scale. Tiny little thing. Rachel / Augusta Luise. I can't help but like it... the colours and shading remind me of the inside of a conch shell. Winchester Cathedral from Ashridge Nurseries Sarah / Jardins de Bagatelle (MEImalfris) from C and K Jones when fully out. Finally cream-coloured, large and fragrant. But it still doesn't seem to resemble the other pictures of this rose on the French Internet so I am a bit puzzled. Still, this rose has been very pretty at every stage and the scent is just lovely.
Elbfee.... thank you. Another rose I need. My husband *will* be chuffed. I love the dark heart of the rose in your second picture especially.
Marlorena, you capture the dark charm of Tommy so well.
Pitter-patter, thank you. Your Starlight Symphony is a dream.
Edhelka, I love your rose choices and your beautiful cat.
@Marlorena, great plant combo Kathleen
Harrop and matching foxglove as well as Desdemona and Verbasccum. I
can recommend Orlaya as a good rose companion.
Those who grow Munstead Wood, mine is 3
years old and still only 30cm high. It has this lovely bloom. Which I
cannot see because the rose is about 3m away from the flower bed
border. Do I need to move it or will it grow. If so when?
@Edhelka a rare sight your Crépuscule.
Lovely rose. Like your Saphir too. Do you know if you have the light
or the dark version of Reine des Violettes? I'd like to compare
photos.
@WAMS what a great pic of Shropshire
Lad. Here is your daily Petit Prince update. It starts to have scent.
Love it. The much older rose planted in the ground does not even show
buds yet. Lucky me, to have 2 of them now.
@Eustace your all roses in one shot on
page 220, why do I try to put similar colours together. Your
combination looks fantastic.
I am very much into well saturated colours like this. The scent is quite strong too.
My little collection of Hulthemias slowly starts to bloom.
James holds the colour very well so far. Shows a bit of proliferation deep down. Checked twice but decided it is not some kind of critter.
Jenny is another very healthy rose, no trouble at all. But blooms only once, very floriferous and a strong scent.
Thought I had lost L'Aimant but depotting helped. I like the frilly petals.
Self cleaning, gets along with rain well and oh this scent. This is rose scent.
Sophs is another very short rose and totally in the wrong spot. Hope she grows as I do not want to move her.
@Marlorena BMS at 5.5ft...? must be glorious when in full bloom..
interesting @ElbFee I find yours is more reddish black compared to mine which has this rusty tone to it.. thanks for posting those pics.. hope I too can enjoy it as much as you..
@ElbFee Munstead Wood is in its 3rd season here. Last 2 seasons I had it in part shade. This year, I have moved the pot to a sunny spot and mulched with a liberal dose of farmyard manure. The flowers this year are much bigger; almost as big as Golden Celebration and Olivia Rose Austin. I think it is the 'sleep, creep and leap' in action more than anything.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
@WAMS - Gardner Ben has some interesting choices and opinions on Austin roses I must say. He has a fair few top 20 and top 10 Austin videos. He said Peter Beales and Harkness approached him so they have both sent him a load of roses so I think he is reviewing all 3 breeders this summer. This is his latest top 20:
His top Austins 10 are: Claire Austin (10th), Princess Anne, James L Austin, Crown Princess M, Country Parson, Eustacia Vye, Lady Emma Hamilton, Gabriel Oak, Mill on the Floss, Sylas Marner (1st).
Would be interested to know what others would or wouldn't have in their own top 10 Austins? For me, Getrude J would have to be in there 100%. I would also have PAoK in there.
@cooldoc and @Oliya what are your overall opinions on Boscobel? I wanted to get it as I recently lost my granndfather and that is his very last rose (plant) he purchased.
Have been avidly watching with envy. And and we are off! It’s taken a while. Cornelia in the front. Emily Brontë behind and GG on the house wall. Cornelia is really spreading low and wide so may need to add some plant support.

I admit I went off him not for raving about Eustacia but for expressing sorrow that Harkness hadn't sent him a free Dame Deborah James rose.
