It looks like the second bud which is opening on Othello also exhibits proliferation. I see that @Marlorena's also shows the same. Mine is in it's first season, is that why?

@owd potter how is the re-bloom on English lavenders? I understand they start early and be gone by June-July.. do they re-bloom after you cut them back?
lovely pics @Nollie My LEH is not doing well.. all the buds have fallen off, leaves look bad.. fed and watered same as others around it.. was thinking about re-potting it but stopped as I could see two new basals.. will leave it off for now..
@WAMS I too remember seeing another coloured rose named after coronation.. wasn't too keen on checking the actual name.. shame that SR is not even bred in UK... It will be his first Chelsea as King.. may be PB or DA will introduce something on similar lines..
@Marlorena like those mossy glands.. heard they too have a different kind of scent..
@Eustace all the buds that opened so far for me is disfigured I am not sure if I am dealing with a pest issue vs deficiency vs cold damp climate issues..
@cooldoc I think they are mostly due to low temps we've had with this incessant rain 🌧️. Hope the first flush, when it really starts, turns out good. 🤞

Hi @cooldoc, I have Angustifolia Hidcote & Munstead and flowering is slightly different between them (although this could be due different site conditions between the beds where I have them). For me they start to come into bloom end of May, reach their flowering zenith around 1st - 2nd week of July and are pretty much exhausted by beginning of August. I tend to leave the fading flower heads on and clip them around end of August or early Sept. I have not known them to rebloom after clipping.
@Mr. Vine Eye I'm glad you got an Anouk lavender... hope it does well for you too.. I had a feeling you might get one.. I've noticed it also comes in a white form, I might get one of those too..
@Katsa Yes some manure would be good, keeping it off the stems... and yes good idea to hard prune in winter, make a fresh start..

Same here — I have a row of about 60 lavender plants (Hidcote) along the side of the house. I’ve read online about cutting early to encourage a second flowering, but I only have it in me to prune once in August. They start to flower in June for me, but in the relatively short time they are flowering the bees go absolutely crazy.
@Marlorena, Anouk looks fantastic! Did you say it came through the winter?
Sounds like it might be worth a trial then @Athelas? I think I will clip one of my lavender mounds early this year as they are fading, say at end of July, to see if I can induce a rebloom. I'll let you all know how it goes of course
@Athelas Yes, unscathed.. they are in large pots unprotected.. I had several nights down to -8C when they would be frozen solid but it didn't affect them at all, I have read they are hardier than that even, but this may not be everyone's experience, and I can only refer to southern parts.. They seem to keep themselves dry during the winter with their dense structure. I never water them except during the hottest spells in summer, and they should not be fed any fertilizer.. In Spring I just snip off the old spent flower heads..

For a long flowering English lavender - angustifolia type - you would need to seek out a variety bred in France called 'Maillette', which I've never seen in a garden centre.. it flowers from early June for 3 months until early Sept. It's larger, less tidy and can sprawl a bit.. Large growing intermedia lavenders have the longest season right into autumn.. varieties like 'Grosso' and 'Grappenhall'.. or my favourite 'Gros Bleu' May-Sept.. here it is in mid August.. a tremendous plant..
