@Lizzie27 That is as good a guess as any. It's been a strange rose. In the back garden in the middle of a bed, it was only 1ft wide by 2ft tall, very weedy, with few flowers. A more definite yellow, and HT shaped. It was put out front to either sink or swim, in soil that is very stoney and poor looking. But as you see it loves this position up against a wall, with morning only sun. It has changed its habit completely. My only reservation is you say thin canes, this is quite a robust bush with quite thick canes, but does tend to outgrow itself making the canes bend, so needs support.
@purplerallim, perhaps I should have qualified that remark, the oldest canes are quite thick and very stiff (they've been difficult to prune out) but the newish canes grow very quickly indeed and are very whippy. We've supported them this year with two metal trellis panels at right angles to each other as we get high winds frequently. Am thinking of putting another panel perhaps in the winter.
.. @purplerallim It's a nice looking shrubby climber isn't it.. are the blooms white with a yellow centre? I notice the rather lovely dark green glossy foliage, quite healthy too and the large clusters of buds.. .. we shall await close ups of the blooms when open..
..some stunning garden pics today, I meant to add.. such variety of roses..
GJ has a much more powerful scent. It wafts so well, too. Gardener Ben the David Austin Rose Expert raves about Eustacia Vye and *hates* the Alnwick Rose. For this reason, I fully expect to love the Alnwick Rose.
Exceptional photos on here again today. By contrast, according to my phone camera, "A Shropshire Lad" is the glowing magical rose from Beauty and the Beast.
@edhelka how does Daybreak smell? does it smell like the ones that produce from stamens.. spicy kind? and is it strong..
interesting finding on Harlow Carr @Nollie I too din't think it's fragrance was strong.. I put it down to a 1st year plant and was hoping it would increase this year and initial blooms this year isn't strong yet..
@Oliya agree on everyones fragrance description for GJ and MW.. blooming might be better on MW compared to GJ.. but currently the GJ is just amazing..
Boscobel..
Julio Iglesias.. loving this freebie so far.. more petals compared to Scentimental.. and fragrance is consistently strong.. blooms last longer on the bush..

Hmm, I never tried (it's still small and I don't like musky fragrances that much). And the sources online are anything from light to strong. Trying it now: nothing to talk about.
'Sally Holmes' produces these huge single blooms.. 'Lilac Bouquet'.. shrubby but shortly to grow as a rambler.. I think it's beautiful.. and thornless.. 'Desdemona' with Verbascum and Lychnis.. 'Wild Rover' with 'Bring Me Sunshine' in front.. about 5.5 feet tall. 'Amelie Nothomb'.. I do love this colour.. Pelargonium 'Tommy'.. again.. ..my little pond.. disappointed I haven't got any frogs.. used to get them before the pond. 'Frilly Cuff' at the front, which was pruned hard in winter... Geranium 'Eureka Blue'.. Agastache 'Marello'..
Thanks everyone for your comments regarding the MW’s scent vs GJ. I’ve got MW and I too wouldn’t say it’s got a particularly strong scent. It’s definitely a very rich one but it doesn’t waft that far from the bush.
My favourite rose for scent is Boscobel. Even though the scent itself is not that strong, I personally find it very appealing. I can’t wait for my Boscobel to start blooming so I can smell it again.
It's so cold and windy here; it doesn't feel like the start of meteorological summer 😕
Enjoying everybody's rose and garden photos. @Marlorena I too have a new this season to me, Wild Rover, planted bareroot. If it grows even 1/10th the size of your WR, I'll be happy ☺️ @pitter-patter Romantic siluetta and Bajazzo are looking very nice.
A few photos I managed to click during the pauses in the wind. Unlabelled HTs I should support Marie Curie sometime soon. Weg der Sinne, that colour is growing on me. Eustacia Vye, another one needing support. The Wren Queen of Sweden, just getting started. Palais Royal/White Eden - fully open now.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
