I’m sorry you missed out too @ElbFee, I think WAMS was right there. Now people are gloating openly on facebook, DA will probably move to shut down those contract breaches in future too. Still think DA are missing a big trick in refusing to sell a heritage collection of their ‘retired’ varieties, they are clearly still in high demand even at the vastly inflated premiums people are selling them for on ebay. Who are we humble rose fans though, to question their commercial wisdom or spurious excuses for retiring them in the first place..
Phew, from constant deluges we are now heading for temperatures of near 40c, so roses here, including Lady Em, are seriously frying 🥵
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
@WAMS yes! I think they are all emerging from the pupae earlier this year, when I was cutting back the big bush I saw loads (and carefully transplanted them all on the border)
And spotted a friend today not long after readying your post 😆
@ElbFee I had a similar experience with TCL last time. I did send an email and I have been told that those roses are in out of stock status due to poor quality. I see many including 'Forever Royal' is out of stocke.. May be it is due to lack of producing good quality bareroots this year. I am not sure how many are in UK managed to get DA into their order! If it's one or two we may get away but they would have stopped if it is a lot. As you are in Europe, I'm sure that you should be able to locate the lost treasures! Good luck.
Aww, Lady Emma Hamilton is a nice enough rose (beautiful if overhyped), but I would always choose sleep, Elbfee! And did. Maybe next year... I don't know whether to try TCL or not. They do have Nollie's Purple Lodge, newbies's Versigny, Rojas's Cymbeline and Charles de Gaulle (which is sold as Katherine Mansfield and is very popular in New Zealand)... and your striking Huddersfield Choral Society!
Right, Nollie. If DA said: "You can still get Munstead but we charge £Xinflatednotworthitprice for a bareroot and there is no five year guarantee"... it would still sell out.
Pretty Jessica and Boule de Neige from Trevor White @zugenie hurray! In Russian and probably other Eastern Slavic languages, ladybirds are called "God's little cows" which I think makes them just seem even cuter.
@Marlorena Those LoS blooms are stunning. Much more my sort of thing than the weedy effort of the PL which I have seriously fallen out of love with. I will be contacting DA, @WAMS, since not only is the bloom losing any attractiveness come day 3, I also have serious issues with my Bring me Sunshine they sent in June which has two major blackened die down canes now, and no new growth, and the whole plant looks ill compared to my others that arrived at the same time. Pics to follow!
Just had a look at TCL, hardly any dark David Austin colours left in stock, are people taking the FB message of no darks to heart I wonder? Only Gabriel Oak and Thomas a Becket still available. I think DA pricing will be responsible for the newer ones being OOS. Will they take this lying down?
I took some pics today, I really have to force myself to now but seeing photos on here is such a treat I feel I should tooEufemiaThe Feminine TouchHeidi KlumHippie Fashion Midsummer's Night Dream
Another view view of BMS. I didn't cut those canes, hence my not being overwhelmed with good PR for their company today. Here is that view of a 2/3 day old bloom on Penelope.
If I touch it, it starts to want to disintegrate.
On the talk of the reds from DA, I may keep my Othello, since he's behaving this year with none of the mildew (so far) from last year!

This is one view of the BMS, been with me just under 3 weeks and about to be potted up, but look at those two big black canes
