Ruminating on Mum's wish for the Rambling Rector up an arch ... On a closer inspection the DA Archway is huge, as is RR. Not sure I want that monster in the garden!
What are your thoughts on the seemingly well-behaved Ghislaine de Feligonde up an arch. She seems a better height, thornless (nearly) and repeat flowering. Could this be the rambler that I am looking for. I also note it is constantly referred to in this thread and if you guys have it it makes me think it is a 'doer'.
I was hoping to plant it at the back of a small south facing border with two shrubs to the east and west on either side. So if GdF wants to flop a bit into them then I do not mind. Then about 3' in front of the arch I was wanting to extend my bearded iris collection to include some 'Supreme Sultan'
I have been busy and have just caught up on several days of posts. I clicked on "quote" to reply about Ghislaine but then I saw that others have replied. Never mind, I'll reply too. I have Ghislaine and so does my daughter. She grows quite bushy but isn't hugely tall so not the best for an arch. Lovely rose though.
@Tack said "Fantastic pergola @Perki, something for us all to look forward to. I have Alexandre Girault but as it is still only 15ft up inside a dense tree there isn't much to photograph. It seems healthy and is a gorgeous colour with better than expected repeat." I am still not totally decided about roses for my new gazebo so I looked up Alexandre Girault and the websites that I looked at for French delivery all said that that rose doesn't repeat.
@punkdoc I have a very old Rosa Glauca in our garden in Norfolk growing in the lawn. It's quite big, but I don't know if it's ever been pruned. It's leaning forward quite a bit, we've put in a prop. I don't have a sideways photo. We visited several gardens that have Rosa Glauca. They all seemed quite compact. I haven't seen one as big as ours, quite a bit taller than me.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
'Alexandre Girault'.. if this rambler is totally left alone after the first flush, no deadheading, no pruning, it will repeat flower quite well, especially in September.. if the lateral growth is pruned in any way, the plant tidied up, then it won't..
..some mixed pics for today.. 'Wild Blue Yonder'.. 'Sweet Silouetta'.. 'Cornelia' with repeating clematis 'Wesselton'.. 'Odelia' with Griselina and Box.. 'Wilhelm'.. large clusters.. 'Iceberg'.. ..pink and orange.. I don't always mind.. Phlox 'Mt. Fuji' / Alonsoa 'Rebel'.. bits of 'Lucky'.. Aster 'Monch'.. Phlox 'Sweet Summer Soft Pink'..
A single-stem bouquet of R. ‘Sourire d’orchidée’ in a test-tube vase. This rose is finally repeating quite nicely this summer. In case you wonder why I cut it rather than letting it grow, that branch was leaning on the other side of the fence, all for the benefit of the neighbour. That same neighbour who lets anything grow in their "garden", including lots of bindweed which he sends me from under the fence. I felt it was not a fair exchange of gifts, so...
I like the soft colour of that phlox Sweet Summer @Marlorena.
This year, all the roses here had only the spring feed around March and have survived on rain alone. They are flowering well too, happy about that. Because of my trips away from home, I couldn't do the midsummer feed. It is too late now. Also I usually buy Wilko rose fertilizer which is reasonably priced, I have searched for it in the nearby stores past 2 months, but couldn't find any. Now that avenue is also closed. 🥺

Young Lycidas Proper Job - nice flowers though the leaves of this plant are the worst, blackspot wise. Cecilia Lady of Shalott My neighbour's Verbena Bonariensis has self-seeded all over my paved front garden. Will be relocating the free plants soon 😁
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth

These remind me of stocks I used to use in vase. I am missing stocks now. They smell amazing.
Peace in front garden, too windy to take more photos.

I'm glad you have a new camera @Marlorena.
My roses are having a bit of a lull. It's quite hot here at the moment in Dordogne. I don't know how @Nollie has such gorgeous roses in sunny Spain.
