'Golden Beauty' is such a lovely rose.. I wish I had kept mine.. premature decision..
'Forever Royal'.. 'Wild Blue Yonder'..
..some other things.. Anemone 'Honorine Jobert'.. Anthemis 'E.C. Buxton'..
..introducing Geranium pratense 'Blue Thunder'.. this is fairly new, of the 'Midnight Reiter' group of Geraniums.. beautiful foliage.. it's been flowering for 10 weeks non stop.
So many gorgeous photos, and I just drop by to ask questions...
Received two lovely Lady of Shalotts this week ... will they need support? Many thanks
Hi @J@"Janie B" I planted a Lady of Shalott in February and I would definately recommend support. I chose to use an obelisk (1.5 Mtr) for it to grow through.
But, as @Marlorena says, it depends what you want it to do.
Double delight back garden, 20 years old, not producing as many blooms as the Front garden one that's 2 years old. Double Delight front garden Peace with the African marigolds and the berries are from bush honeysuckle strawberries and cream
This is the nicest bloom I've had on Bolero all year. It seems to be a favorite with all the bud-nibbling and leaf-chomping critters. Smells heavenly, though!
Finally had some sunshine this weekend so I tackled a bunch of gardening jobs, pulled out a dead Hebe and a scraggy Ceonothus, both will create more rosy space, pruned shrubs and trees and the wisteria (which is COVERED in setting buds again!) Also planted a bunch of roses waiting in nursery pots. The shrubs fought back, covered in scratches!
My new CLIMBING hulthemia Orienta Aladdin has opened... and its scented!! Most persican roses are not, but it has the most beautiful spicy clove like scent, so strong I could smell it when opening the box just from the buds! Im delighted with it. Its in my raised bed with its own metal trelis panel to climb. Lovely specimen from Pococks. Munstead wood 2nd flush Megan standard (styles exclusive). Suits a standard form very well.
I really want to have a go at taking cuttings this year, just as back up of some of my discontinued ones incase we ever move! I will try a few hips too as with 80+ roses and buff tailed bumbles nesting in the garden theres bound to be something interesting! I will leave a few on late season.
Yesterday in the sunshine, I managed to do some deadheading and clearing up the debris from the pots. Here are a few pictures I took then.
English Miss - the plant is mostly defoliated by itself, still it is flowering.
Lady of Shalott - I love the flowers when they are at this stage; cupped. Perdita - a stingy bloomer. Evelyn May - nice colour combo, erect flowers too. Susan Williams-Ellis.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
The Poet's Wife has decided to climb a Camellia. Looks lovely with clean camellia leaves.
Parole/Buxom beauty. This is an awkward plant but it is planted next to a huge Laylandii and still manages to grow and gives a bright pop of colour in front of that huge green background. I wouldn't keep this and Benjamin Britten but these two are strong plants next to the monster Leylandii.
'Lucky'.. 'Cornelia'.. 'Scented Garden'.. 'Mrs. John Laing'.. 'Sally Holmes'.. 'Tottering by Gently..' Crocosmia 'Carmine Brilliant'.. 'Wilhelm'.. with Alonsoa and Lythrum...
Chandos Beauty continued...... After all the help I received from @Tack@Eustace and others, I finally purchased Chandos Beauty from Styles. A very healthy plant with beautiful glossy leaves was received almost by return of post. Full instructions were enclosed and advice to keep it in the same pot for at least a year. In June, I had two stems in full flower with three blooms on each. They lasted in the house for nearly two weeks. Beautiful scent! Then it rained almost continuously for the rest of the month. Black Spot arrived with avengeance. The plant looked almost dead. I took off all the leaves. No watering was required! Today, although still leafless, there are six separate and very healthy looking shoots.
(Bricks in pot as anchor due to exceptionally windy conditions)Many thanks for all the help.
@daisym Nice one that Chandos Beauty. I think you should either plant it in a bigger pot or in the ground sooner, rather than wait for a year. What do the other forumers here say?
